I was wondering about the fuel genie or the tornado is it worth the money, I haven't found any real info on it.Blocking the air with shinny metal blades seems to restrict the air.

Just buy a good intake and stay away from that junk.

Agree with Irish FX4 on that
Even a K&N drop in will work much better.

Well the tornado isn't very restrictive @ all..
what it does it causes the air to spin so when the fuel is added to it the fuel is spun into it causing a better more even mixture of air/fuel..
Which will make a more efficient burn make less fuel used for air..

as for the air intake.. What does it do? It give you more power.. What is the source of power? More air/fuel.. What does more air/fuel do to gas mileage? Makes it worse because your getting more power.. I would lighten up on the pedal if you want better fuel mileage.. MAke sure it is up to date with the maintance.. spark plugs/wires/ fuel filter.. good clean air filter.. (maybe a k&n drop in)

Keep the engine running efficient and smooth so it isn't wasting fuel..
less weight also if it isn't needed..

You would have to drive a lot of miles before the saving would out way the cost even with an intake.

I have the KN&N FIPK II and a Tornado..And it does help. Im getting a Throttle body spacer to see if it's going to help me even more.

I got an 06 4L with 4:10 rear FX4 Level 2 and I get 15mpg. So if you get better than that, be happy.

Do the dealers have any problems with new intakes (warranty issues)?

these are proven to decrease fuel economy, the restriction it causes far outweighs the benefits it provides.

Waste of money in my opinion. The factory intake is 'cold' and delivers more than enough air.Best bet is to keep it tuned up and drive like your granny

My fuel mileage is horrible.

Truck has 16k on it. tank = 400 kms if im lucky and I dont hammer down unless im passing on the highway.

Shouldn't need a tuneup yet :icon_eek:

well i currently get 550km to a tank, thats 6k on oil, gotta get it changed, usually i get 600. and Travis is that true about the Intake, i was told i would gain mileage out of it.

redbull2008

i can usually get about 450km on a tank but i guess that's the price you pay to drive the Ranger the meanest small truck on the road.

Fuel mileage sucks this time of year. Winter gas combined with the temp gets me about 400-450kms to a tank on average. During summer I always top 500kms before the fuel light.

I'll do 350-450 km's per fill up (about 60L) with the 5.0L in it.
About the same as with the 4.0 in it.

well a little update, blew through a 3/4 tank of gas all last night of straight driving, and i got 600, didnt push it at all(well much lol) so im thinking my mileage just went up because of a CAI or i got lucky, still havent changed my oil or plugs gonna do that tomorrow

Why the 94 octane? Tuned for it with a Programmer?

Mine mileage is usually 50/50 highway and city.

Well there is 2 sides..
One is to get more power.. more air.. more fuel..

other is more bottom end power for cruising.. less restrictive air flow.. less strain on the engine.. better gas milage..

so highway mileage should get better..
more hammering on it.. it will get worse then before..

At least those are the ways i always found out when I researched it..
I will be installing mine this week sometime.. maybe this afternoon depending the weather and what time I get back from the doctors.. (st thomas)

i was on blue oval news and there an article about running a vehicle on water what is this all about. I'm skeptical of these gimmicks but they make it sound so good,i wonder how it would hold up in -40,anyways keep on *******!

That would not work at -40 not for long anyway:)

I have a 4.0 L 4x4 with 4:10 rear axle. about 20K on the truck and I get consistent 22 mpg imperial = 18 mpg U.S. If anything I'll look at a programmer, and possibly elect. fan in the future

I have an '08 FX4, 4.11 and stock tires. I have gone 5459.7km on 843.5lt mixed city/hwy. 15.6L/100km, 18.3Imp MPG and 15.5US MPG, $0.1882/km just for fuel. I just read a report on K&N and other aftermarket filters and it showed that most of them were a straight rip-off. They do not filter anywhere near as well as the stock paper filters and that's how they increase air flow. Without reprogramming you're not going to see much in the way of MPG gains even with the extra dirt in your engine:happy-102:

the best way to get maximum mpg is to keep it clean and stock i guess, good info the aftermarket air cleaners

Did a long run on the past week-end. 1216kms on 136.9 liters. So 11.2 l/100km, 21.1 mpusg, 25.1 mpig.

That's with the 4.0, 4:10's, on 31" m/t's running the stock intake. I'll see what happens after the AEM intake is installed.

^ wow thats pretty impressive, 25mpg would be nice!

-Blueranger your truck will get better as it breaks in. I was getting crap gas mileage for the first 10 000 km too.

Yeah, but that was almost all highway. A few city kms and it drops significantly. On the first tank (Calgary to Peace River) it was over 27 mpig.

How fast where you going on highway #2? If I recall the speed limit is 120k an hour, I am surpized that you got that kinda of milaged traveling at those speeds..

The posted limit is actually 110, but everyone drives around 120. Cruise was set at 118 from Calgary to Edmonton, 115 Edmonton to Valleyview, and 105 from Valleyview to Peace River. And I had the A/C on! On the other hand, I think there was a good breeze blowing from the south, so that would help a lot :icon_biggrin:

Last week my wife and I drove from Vancouver to Kelowna, using the crowsnest (#3) and average speed was 90k. Total trip there was 500 k and I filled the tank back up when I arrived at Kelowna with just over 50L.

Think that works out to about 25 mpg, (have not done the math to convert to Liters yet)

Wait.. lol I guess that is approx 10L per 100k.. Doh!

I have an '08 FX4 with a K&N intake, Magnaflow Exhaust, and 33x10.5" bfg muds.
I have been getting ~12.5L/100km since the first tank. The mods seem to have made very little if any difference in fuel mileage.
