Bought mine used. 03 SD F 350 6.0. Has just over 179,000 kms. My 99 SD F250 5.4 had something like 227,000 when I sold it. My two before that were 369,000 and 411,000. I typically buy them with higher kms. If they have been maintained it does not seem to be an issue.

My current 4.0L is untouched (besides occasional tune-ups) and is sitting at 269,xxx km, slight tick at idle. My last '90 Ranger was 425,xxx km and still going strong (again, untouched but high revs would starve top end of oil, cam bearings worn out. #3 exhaust valve would pound, echoing through exhaust when starved, ran fine under 3000 rpm) until some crackheads rammed it into a brick wall in Mission. My first Ranger, '87, I sold with 350,xxx km on it (rebuilt by my dad at 200,xxx km but was completely unnecessary - Canada Engines repeatedly kept asking why he wanted it to be, motor was just barely broken in. $1450 wasted IMO).

You can expect trouble-free usage with your Cologne V6s under 300,000 km, possible worn cam bearing issues beyond that. Some older 2.9Ls tended to crack, 4.0Ls pound out pushrods. I would expect 400,000 km from any engine, import or not, if treated decently and maintained properly. Definitely expect to do a clutch/slave on any Ranger by 250,000 km though. LR

Went through 4 alternators, 2 tie rods, other basic maintenance of course.
My passenger airbag/underdash was starting to make some real weird noises before I sold it.

'03 Ranger 4x4, w/4.0 liter SOHC V-6, auto

290,000 km, mostly trouble free - regular fluid changes, including oil and filter every 5,000 km, tranny filter and fluid every 50,000, run synthetic in the front and rear diffs, transfer case filled w/ regular ATF changed every 100,000 km, air and gas filters every 50,000 km max.

Have changed alternator, a fan clutch, belt tensioner and pulley and serpentine belt, wiper motor, (and plugs and wires of course), but nothing much else under the hood.

Still have original exhaust, calipers, brake hoses and most everything else.

Gone through a few sets of brake pads and shoes, and rear brake hardware, a set of front rotors, a set of brake cables, but still running on original rear drums (will need replacement soon).

Consumer Reports had a cover article some time ago about high mileage vehicles and there was a Ford Ranger with something in the neighbourhood of about 400,000 MILES - that would be about 640,000 km.

I'm sitting at 170,000kms even...just crossed it today :) I also just went to Edmonton, AB towing with a combined weight of almost 9,000LBs from London, ON. I did not take the U.S. route but instead went through the mountains in Northern Ontario... Wow..Our Escape has yet to fail me. I hope to do that same trip again with possibly a bit more weight as my wife and I will be moving out west this year or next.... oh, and the cost of fuel was not bad at 750 bucks for one way...give or take.

our new to us family wagon just went over 372,000km today. its an E350 clubwagon w/powerstroke, runs mint now that I put a new cam sensor in it, and has averaged 21mpg since our purchase in July. we are actually saving it for a summer vehicle, and using the wife's 95 sable wagon for the beater.
