Ford is scheduled to have a concept of the 2009 Lightning make the autoshow circuit within the next year...do you think this is a good idea or not?

WOW...that FX2 Sport Extreme F-150 is a great looking truck and with some heathly HP:t-up:
Thats a nice truck...but I dont beleive thats the lightning they are talking about....I think some spy pics may show up soon..heres to hoping...lol

Last week I saw a picture (side view) of the 2009 F-150 and the front grill
sort of looks like the ford edge ? so seeing this concept gives me hope
that ford won't make my next pick-up (2009)?look like one of there crossover
suv's or whatever the ----they call them.

the 2009 concept isnt too bad i would still purchase it cause its a lightning.. but depends on if its the same as the older models but the only difference is the style.

it has to be a regular cab and be able to take back the fastest pickup. If not don't bother.

i agree the lightning should be a 2 seater reg cam short box so be the smae. of you change any thing then its not worth making.

The concept looks great, sits nice and low, that will probably change with the production model, but the idea is right.

They should make it the truck. With that said:
Lighten the truck up, its ok if a superduty outweights the competition by nearly 1000 lbs, but a half tonn doesn't have too. (i'm thinking ford will put all their vehicles on a diet to try and improve fuel ecomomy, just don't swiss cheese the frame like in 1980)
Go with a blown (eaton twin screw) 6.2 and new 6spd tq shift and i think it would be set to bring back the fastest truck crown. O and a reg cab with out the ***/supercab look alike doors. Either make a supercab or make a regular cab, not a supercab with no seats. imo.
Hell ya they should bring it back! That shouldn't even be a question, Ford has been falling behind WE NEED THE TITLE AGAIN Chev's beware!!!!!!!!

The L is growing on me in the used market. I wouldn't mind getting a 99 for some fun. I'd have a hard time paying 60K for a new one. I think they should make it a niche truck, numbered and 2000 or less of them. If they try to sell 8-10,000 they'll have a hard time.

99 will be the cheapest one you can get, but there's a reason for it.
They were the first year and had more issues than following years....intercooler recall(which if it wasnt done already will cost you now 1000+ as recall warranty has been removed)
3-4 threaded plugs, same as my 01, which means you have to check and torque regularly
They were the least attractive out of all the years, the mirrors weren't colour matched, interior was slightly different, headlights were stock f150s not clear, corners where stock f150s not clear, regular f150 tail lights not clear, and IMO the ugliest out of all 3 stock style of rims
OH and I'm warning you now, if you are interested in buying an L because it may be easier on your wallet, think again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Modding does not stop and your credit cards suffer lol I think im....10 gs in already?
And still plan on going built one day down the road....

? you mean 93-95? those were the only years 93-95 & 99-04
The Gen 1s were cool trucks too, dogs compared to the Gen 2's but they were awesome in their day

Yeah, but it's a Taurus mated to a Tacoma -- with a 422 horsepower* V8 engine, which I'd give my left nut to drive. And that's without turbo or a blower, I might add.
(*Previously forgot to mention the Falcon XR8 FPV Super Pursuit -- because apparently, the regular XR8 wasn't insane enough. This one is mad as a bag of spiders.)

Kudos to Ford for coming up with a machine such as this, but in my mind it's the same thing as SRT4 neons etc......sure it's fast,but no matter how you put it, still super ghay (no offense using that term to anyone)

Okay, well if it's just an argument about looks, then that just comes down to personal taste. Neither one of us will win that debate. But you have to admit, a lot of people would say turning any kind of a "truck" into a high performance vehicle is completely mental to begin with. So my philosophy is once you've crossed the line into insanity, why go half way? These Falcons and the Holdens aren't exactly a Dodge Neon with a fart-can stuck on the back.

Exactly, give Ford credit for such a ride, some like it, some wouldn't. It's different for sure, just a wee bit tacky styling IMO.

Yeah, definitely the paint is a little loud, and they could lose that goofy spoiler on the back for starters. More Mad Max, less Malibu Barbie.

i had a 77 ranchero gt with a 460,had to get rid of it after i twisted the frame(the 2 trannys and rear diff before should have been a warning!)
