Taking the truck to Chandlers on the 29th to get some baseline dyno runs. $75 for 3 pulls. I estimate I'll get about 145-155rwhp. Tried to setup a dyno session with SHM in Woodstock but they never called me back. Since they are mostly a 4.6L mustang shop they didn't sound to thrilled when I mentioned what vehicle I wanted to put on the dyno.

When I get some hard numbers I'll post em and the dyno sheets if they give em to me.

Thanks Smoke.
Well if you wanna drop by W4x4 the appointment is for 10 AM on the 29th.
Will having weight in the back of the truck affect the numbers? I can always just take the stuff out and put it back when its done.

Hey f150phule,

Where is Chandlers? I need to get some dyno runs for my Troyer tunes so as he can dial them in and hopefully gain a few more rwh.:lol-0017:
Anybody no a dyno place near the Georgetown area?

145-155hp is pretty low for a V6 isn't it? My 4 banger Prelude put 182hp to the wheels and that was stock.

Chandlers is in London near the airport. Just google Chandler Technologies.
Steeda in Milton is prolly closest for you. There is also Da Silva racing in GTA.

Well depending on which site you go to the 97's came stock with somewhere between 202-210 HP at the motor. So if you factor in all the parasitic losses 145-155 should be close.
Besides I found a site where you can get a ballpark figure based on your 1/4 mile times and truck weight. I think I had a thread on here about this before, but based on my times and weight they came out to about 147rwhp.

Early this summer would be good.

I'd be up for that, Chandlers is charging me $75 for 3 pulls. I was planning on putting it on the dyno this summer after I put this years mods on it just to see how much I gained.

dont go expecting numbers you will be dissapointed if you dont get what you think you should have

f150phule
02-24-2008, 01:30 AM
Well I dont really care what the numbers are I just want them so I have a point of comparison once I have the bolt ons installed. But like I said the 145-155 is just a guess and if I make that or more I'll be happy. I really doubt I'll make less than that.

Ok dyno day results.

Best numbers were on the last pull.

173.8 rwhp 226.7 rwtq not bad for a tired v6.

Speed limiter kicked in a 112 mph.

I tried scanning the print out but my scanner is toast, just shows a totally black image.
I took some pics with the digi cam but the numbers are hard to read.
If some has a good scanner I could mail you the print out so you can scan it for me.

After talking with them for awhile I think I'll put the turbo idea on hold until I get a new motor or rebuild this one. They didnt recommend putting one on a motor as old as mine. they kinda hinted that a SIDO exhaust would give me better numbers that true duels. The tuner Alec said that if I go with a turbo I would only need 1 cat and no muffler just a resonater since the turbo would act as a muffler.

Anyway they seem impressed with the Hp from a tired stock v6.

Most posts I've read say about 260hp to the wheels.

Good numbers, I thought they would be around that mark.

Northern Supercrew
02-29-2008, 07:56 PM
260? that's pretty good. it seems that they would lose more than 40 hp by the time it hits the rears. but i stand corrected. thanx.

That would make sense then.
They had Tim's(aka Cobranet) cobra and Alec's 77 Monza on the dyno for weeks getting everything sorted out.

But then again anything is possible.

f150phule
03-03-2008, 01:43 AM
Well the 97 4.2L had, depending on which site you check, 202-210 hp at the crank so my numbers are > than that. I've been to multiple sites and some say 202 hp, some say 210??

My truck doesn't have a tach so they had to use this laser pointer thing on a stand placed under the truck. I wonder if that makes a difference?

Well i was talking to my buddy today who works at Chandlers (Alec Swain) and he claims that all you non-believers better start believing because everything is running perfect with the dyno. Even he said he was impressed with the truck for the amount of K's and only being a V6.

Congrats on your Numbers. :happy096:

white4by4
03-03-2008, 08:31 PM

Even at 205-210 HP if you minus 18% HP for drive train loss that still gives you 170 RWHP. So he is on the money.

Got an email from Troyer this morning, the CAI, UDP, Xcal 3 w/canned tunes and serp. belts are on the way. Custom tunes should arrive mid-May. Looks like next weekend will be some fun wrench time, so once I get the parts if anyone wants to give me a hand, and I could use some, then the beer and pizza is on me :icon_lol:

And big a thanks goes out to Matt and the whole sig team for a great job on my new sig.

Ok I'm kinda pissed at UPS. I got the invoice from Troyer today but they shipped the parts on the 8th and "apparently" UPS tried to deliver them today. Funny I've been home all day and the phone never rang for the door buzzer and my balcony is directly above the main door so I would hear it if a truck pulled up. So now I have to wait till Monday.

ya they should have left a paper on your door or on the ground in between your doors, they did that to me but i caught them on the way out before they took it, the sticker read the location, time they tried to deliver, and time to pick it up before they ship it back or charge me storage fees.

04-11-2008, 05:58 PM
I get that with UPS alot it's usually a day or two after the actual delivery date even if the tracking status says delivered. I have had SOME luck with UPS when I call them...if you call and ask what's going on and give them your tracking number they can usually tell you your new delivery date, make sure you talk to a person, no punch in your number stuff

If you call the London terminal direct they will set aside cause they unload the trucks everynight

f150phule
04-11-2008, 11:59 PM
I didnt have time to get them today, I called UPS and told them to tell the depot to leave it off the truck and I'll get it Monday. The guy at UPS gave me the address of the depot but refused to give me the phone number. Told me there is no phone number. I said well the how the hell you you get in touch with them? corporate dumbass. so looks like next weekend will be wrench time. They needed to be buzzed into the building and since my phone never rang I dont think the guy was here. They left no indication they were ever here.

if you put them on the back windows maybe 5 hp, but on the front window that creates downforce and will get upwards to 7

Well got the CAI,UDP and new drive belt installed today. We were in a rush cuz my friend got called in to work so no pics but I'll take some in the morning. Just a slight whistling noise when cruising but you dont hear it with the radio on. But when you get on it....whooo...nice deep tone...almost makes me thinks its a v8. Much better accel and super easy to pass now, don't use near as much throttle as before. Usually going up the escarpment in Hamilton it used to seem laggy going up unless I really stepped on it...now..zipped up it doing 120 with ease. Didn't have time to mess with the Xcal 3 yet but I'll do that tomorrow. Only had one issue, one of the A/C lines from the waterpump rubs against the bottom of the elbow just in front of the TB. Just used a piece of the old drive belt as a buffer and held in place with a zip tie. Didn't want to try bend the line in case it kinked. The part of the line that is rubbing is just where the rubber line attaches to the metal line. All in all I'm happy with the mod, now just need to make an airbox for it to make a true CAI.

f150phule
04-20-2008, 03:56 PM
Ok got some pics. The third pic of the CAI you can see the rubber pad I've had to install until I can find time to bend that A/C line down a bit so it doesn't rub against the intake tube.

This is the UDP we installed, its a tad out of focus, sorry.

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj170/97xl/udp.jpg

Used the programmer to check for DTC codes, none :icon_biggrin:

But I cant even use the canned tunes for 2 reasons. 1) The latest tune file from SCT keeps giving me an error when trying to upload it from my laptop to the programmer and 2) Stupid SCT don't even offer canned tunes for the 4.2L unless its an 04+. Will have to call them Monday.

i'm thinking of getting the UDP. Any problems with a/c, p/s? noticable increase?

f150phule
04-22-2008, 01:23 AM
Well I haven't run the a/c yet so I cant comment on that but so far no issues. Some definite increases though. Much better acceleration, easier to pass and its not as laggy going up steep hills. Also the idle rpms are lower. You'll need to get a new drive belt too since the one you have now will be too long. What year/motor you have? If its the 97-98 4.2L I can give you the part# of the belts I got, if its a 99+ 4.2L you'll need a different UDP than mine. Then 99+ I think has an idler bearing mounted with the crank? Not sure though, but the place I bought mine from the 99 UDP is about $100 more than the 97-98 UDP.

04-22-2008, 08:18 PM
i have a 97 with 4.2L. Debating between pulley from troyer or aspracing. ASP is a bit cheaper but i hear customer service is great at troyer in which i don't mind paying a bit extra.

f150phule
04-23-2008, 01:48 AM
Well the pulley from Troyer is an ASP pulley. I just checked my invoice and thats what it said. You need to count the number of pulleys you have, its either 7 or 8 cuz when you buy the pulley you need to get a new drive belt since the old will be too long. If you call Troyer make sure you tell them how many pulleys so you get the right part. For my truck is was this one http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi-bin/ppistore.pl?user_action=detail&catalogno=4061020

I know its says for the 5.4 V8 but if you read more it says its also for ANY truck that needs a 102" belt.

I got their Stage 1 Kit for the 97-98 4.2L minus the cat back system since it would cost a lot more to ship it.

http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi-bin/ppistore.pl?user_action=detail&catalogno=Stage1-FV6

I asked them to put in the Xcal 3 rather than the 2 since they are the same price. Its a good price but if you live in ON you'll have to pay the taxes + broker fee from UPS, thats who they ship with, cost me an extra $188 to get my parts from UPS.
