Is there anywhere online I can find the tow rating for my truck? Or does anyone know what it is
2000 F-150 xlt reg cab short box 4x4 4.6L V8 and assuming there is no tow package on it due to the lack of receiver.

Not sure of the exact figure, but a reg cab shortbox 4x4 would be get the lowest rating of all models that year. Have you checked on the door sticker what your GVWR is?

Better check your owners manual because I think with 308 gears and 4.2
they don't recommend towing at all :icon_sad:

Pffftt on the manual..I towed my dads 15' house trailer 100km to the cottage last year with no prob, with just the bumper hitch. I don't remember seeing that in the manual anyway. :icon_lol:
And I found out from the original dealer in Strathroy, ON who sold it that the last owner lived on a farm so you can bet they towed something at some point with it.

f150phule I wasn't trying to say that you can't tow .......just what the ratings are in the manual. (GCWR is 6500lbs and max trailer weight 2000lbs and thats not a lot when you start looking at trailers)
I had a 16 ft travel trailer that I towed with my Dodge Caravan and had no problems either..:icon_lol:

I have no idea how much my dad's trailer weighs but who ever designed it must have been asleep in class cuz they put the axle so far back that the trailer can't help but be really tongue heavy.

Thanks and I did go to your link above.
I did not mention from your link that pic-2 to pic-17 are red X's
I assumed that everyone else had them as well. I went directly to imageshack (where your pic comes from) and I cannot get the picture link resolved.

That was my 1st thought too, so I went directly to my truck and copied the VIN from the dash.
Before I copied the VIN, I had thoughts of OH CRAP, my insurance has the wrong VIN, if they have the wrong VIN & I get into an event that requires my insurance, I maybe SOL... :icon_eek:

does anyone know what class the ball that just bolts onto the bumper (for lack of better terms) is rated for. I'm wondering if its enough to flat tow my TJ for now (until I get a trailer later on down the road)

Well the bumper itself should be rated a Class 3 up to 5000 lbs. and 500 lbs tongue weight. The Ball itself should have it stamped somewhere on it.
