trouble codes

Can anyone explain to me how do I extract the trouble codes on my 1994 F150.
Please note I do not need the codes but how do I get at them is what I want to know. Thanks

I used a ford code sanner

i think for this yr of truck the connector is under the hood drivers side... im not 100% sure tho
