49" Recon White Lightning LED light bar.
It looks much better at night. I'll try for some night shots.

I was really surprised how bright they are at night. The other night it was foggy, they looked really good.

Wow looks good.
So these are red with brakes, and are white with back up?
How hard to wire up and how much?
I could use some more back up lighting.

Red with running lights, bright red with brake lights, 1/2 of the bar blinks with turn signals and white for back-up.

Wiring was a breeze. One wire spliced into the driverside backup light, the rest is powered from your trailer lights. It just plugs in.

Those LED light bar's look sweet! I was going to get one a while back but I changed my mind for some reason....hummmm, can't remember why, maybe I should reconsider.

Do you guys find it makes a big difference with the extra backup light at night?

Blairtruck...
How long have you had your lightbar? I am wondering about bulb life.

i see trucks driving around all the time with burnt out Leds in the Light bar and that's why i didn't want to get one. I got the PlazmaGlow Fire and Ice and no Burnt out leds after 2 years or about 25k
I originally got it cause i tinted my taillights a bit to dark and needed it for more light.
Dark Lights can be seen below

yea, I was worried about burnt out bulbs. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Those tinted tail lights look great on your truck. Black on black is always good.

Well i didn't like the yellowish look of the stock backup bulbs compared to the lightbar's white LEDs, so I found these. Not exactly what I was looking for, but I was surprised how bright they are and how much light they throw.

I know this is an old topic, but since I am new I am doing some back reading! Where did you get those LED back up lights that you swapped out the factory ones for?

I got them at Canadian Tire, believe it or not. about $15 each. They are just 12 rear facing LEDs in each bulb, so they don't use much of the chrome reflector in my tail light assembly....but they are BRIGHT.

Two wires? What brand did you get?
"Recon's White Lightning" and "Plasmaglow's Fire & Ice" both have 4 wires to the trailer harness and one (1) loose white wire for splicing into the backup lights.

Only thing I can think of right now for the loose black wire, is maybe a dedicated ground instead of using the one in the trailer harness. Which doesn't make much sense at all.

Did your lightbar not come with a diagram?

I've thought about adding one to my Splash but was worried about the burnt out bulbs too. But that multi colour one looks great and so do the LED reverse lights.

Really have to think about the light bar now.....just too sharp.

It has to do with the temperature of the metal on your truck and the tape. The 3M strips won't cure and adhere as good or at all if it's too cold. You can use a heat gun or a hair dryer to help it stick better or find a heated garage.

I covered the hole. If I need the spare, I'll just remove the screws on the lightbar, to move it out of the way. No biggie (as long as I keep a philips screwdriver in the truck) :icon_lol:

I just had one of those LED bars installed on my truck at the the truck outfitters here in calgary. They did it for free since I got the step rails and tonneau cover there as well. MIne is not a Recon one, but one very similar, and when they installed it the way it was shaped they made a small notch in the plastic just above the LED bar where you get access to the spare tire. So I wont have to remove the bar to let down the spare. It really makes a huge difference when backing up, since I have limo tint on my rear window, it helps at night. And when you brake or signal to turn, no one within 20 feet can miss it! And as for the back up LED light that CanadianRanger is talking about, I went to my local Crappy tire and they were out of stock, but they ordered them for me. The stock number they use is 41-8784 or a 3157 LED Bulb. They should be here next week as I ordered them Nov 20th. They also have them for the red brake/tail lights, so am thinking to swap out those as well since they will be brighter, and will last much longer. At least until I replace the entire tail light with a chrome LED one!:icon_razz:

This moding thing is very addcitive! I keep seeing all thses neat things I want to get for the truck (totally un-needed of course!) but my poor wallet is starting to reject it! And the wife is sick of hearing me talk about the damn truck. My 12 year old daughter however now thinks I am cool again and she wont be ashamed of being seen driving in the truck with me! She did point out that I need to replace the stock stereo as it is not loud or thumping enough for her tastes. Geeeez

Hey Rusty.....it sounds like your wife needs a truck too.........LOL

Just be careful with the LEDs for your brake lights. Because those ones are rear facing, they won't use all of the reflector in your tail light assembly and some LEDs won't blink correctly for a turn signal. They kind of flicker too fast. I think you have to install some sort of load resistor or something like that.

The better LEDs shine in 360 degrees. Similar to this one below I found on Recon's site. But I couldn't find any locally.

I did some more checking.

3156 - is a single filament bulb
3157 - is a double filament bulb

So yes, you could use that Recon LED for a back-up bulb on a Ranger
