1. Can it be put on an '07?

I think I remember reading that it was possible, but difficult. If so, then:

2. Anyone here successfully installed one? And if so would they be willing to share their procedure.

And:

3. In pulling an OHC off an Explorer at the wreckers, is there a way of testing it to make sure it functions (ie. reading lamps, thermometer, etc.)?

The lamps aren't really a big concern. They are easy enough to check.

Cheers,
D.

I put one in my 05. Hardest part was getting up the nerve to cut my headliner. Heres the write-up I followed. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/296394/3 http://www.cardomain.com/ride/296394/4
Not sure if there has been any wiring changes from 05 to 07

Where in alberta are you?

It's a 4.0L.

I've read John's how-to and most of what Bob from Ranger Forums has had to say about installing it - there are wiring changes. I knew some folks had tried installing one, but I wasn't sure if anyone was able to get everything to work properly(ie. temp, compass, etc.).

And while John's how-to is quite good, it's lacking a few bits and pieces. Like where the temp sensor is located on the Explorer and how much, if any, of the wiring harness should one take when pulling an OHC from an Explorer at the wreckers. And other bits like where to find certain wires and such. I can wire and fabricate, but I just wanted to know where everything was before I go pulling my whole dash apart to get one wire when I didn't have to to begin with.

But the OHC can wait. I want to do a little more research and I have an air horn to mount first.

I'm from Lamont, by the way. Well, not from actually. Just live there.

Cheers,
D.

Just found this on an other forum

1. The console itself, with all the electronics inside;

2. The console mounting bracket;

3. The wire harness. The wire harness runs underneath the headliner over to the driver's side and down the A-pillar. The more of it you grab, the better;

4. The temperature sensor, located up front near the radiator, driver's side . It will have a 2 wire-harness connector hanging out the back. Be sure the wire colors are blue/white and blue/yellow.

And this link will give you a wiring Legend for the 07 ranger its mainly the VSS wire you need from it for the temp to display properly, as long as you have power the compas will work.

1. Black (BK) - ground (OHC Bracket)

2A. Yellow/Gray (YE/GY) - console electronics power (ACC Behind radio)
2B. Blue/Red (BL/RD) - console display dimmer input (Behind radio)

3A. Green/Orange(GN/OR) - Map light power ( Acc power behind radio Or at your light switch) This is also the wire you need if you want to put in a Mustang or explorer dome light.
3B. Black/Blue(BK/BL) - Dome light power (From existing dome light)

4A. Lt. Blue/White (BL/WH) - Temp sensor
4B. Lt. Blue/Yellow (BL/YE) - Temp sensor

5. Gray/Black (GY/BK) - speed sensor (VSS Wire from link provided)
