hey there guys me and my bro are starting a project . its a 1992 f150 flairside reg/cab we are really exited to start this job the truck is in good shape its from Yellowknife:icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin: / now we havin t decided if we wer going with a newer power train like 2000 and up or older 70,S and up ??????

anyone have a opinion?

I would go with 5.0 upgrade

I would personally go either 5.8 or 7.5. Youve got a ton of room under the hood so why not go big if its for drag. I know from experience, that you can never have enough power, so might as well have a bigger starting point.

I agree with Roadwarrior, Its alot better to start with big power and work from there, than to wish you had it later.... Mind you, later you may wish you had more.... With me it was always a affordability issue...

If your looking to do a budget build go 5.8. The parts are mostly the same as a 5.0L and they are everywheres. And just build from the bottom out. If money is tight for the project like it is for most of us, just start with a rock solid rotating assembly. Heads, cams, intake, and all the other goodies are fairly easy day job bolt ons. The one biggest thing is to make a goal/plan and stick to it. Figure out what power you want and how you are going to get there. I have seen many combinations come up short because, hey i found this cam for cheap and it should work fine, well these heads will work and they will save me a bit. Find someone, ideally a reputable engine builder, and discuss your goals and come up with a bit of a game plan, then just stick to it.

i think my buddy used to have one ,his was blue with blue ghost flames ,lowered,glasspacks and 17inch centerlines lol,it looked really good for the time,we wrote it off into a ditch,lesson learned dont drink and drive without seatbelts ,oooouch:icon_rolleyes:

with the 5.4 you'll need all the underhood wiring including the power distribution box. It'll be better to get a donor truck

I agree, im hoping to one day find a project and use the 514 as the motor.
