1979 Ford Bronco 400ci V8, C6 auto, np205, 9" rear spooled, hp D44 front welded, 3.55 gears.

I got this Bronco for a sweet deal a couple years ago and did the drivers side head last summer only to have the other head gasket go one week later. At least I am hoping that it's only a gasket, the head I replaced ended up being cracked.

To do list:

-Assemble engine
-change trans fluid/filter
-rebuild front driveshaft
-install spool in rear
-mount super swampers
-mount winch
-finish painting body
-replace rear pinion seal
-install new hubs

Sean:if the 400 bottom end is good an old mud racing trick was to put 351c 4bbl heads and 351c solid lifter cam in the longer stroke of the 400 made good use of the flow of these heads.(and the eng revs better than a big block):)

ps:it looks from pics that you have a dana 50 or 60 front diff, good stout diff:)

I'll definetly keep that in mind as I am about to have the second head rebuilt. Should I just look for a set of 351c heads instead of rebuilding this one? I am new to all this stuff so I appreciate the opinions. And I am on a TIGHT budget. I drove it for a week after I did the first head and it ran awsome so I am assuming that the bottom end is good.

I was told when I bought the diff that it is a 44. Looks the same as the one under the Bronco now. How could I tell the difference?

Front diff is ready to be swapped in now. The pic looks like the bottom of the tube is not painted but I think it's just the glare from the sun coming in the partly open garage door.

Thanks, I sure hope so. I also scored a recently rebuilt Rad for it (I damaged the old one taking the second head off) for only 20$, gotta love the local wheeling comunity. And when I removed the head I noticed that the gasket had been on backwards!!!! But I still plan on having it rebuilt while it's out. (alraedy have one done so may as well have two good heads)

yea once your at it you might as well do it all so she'll last longer
and wheres Drumheller?
when I get outta school I plan on moving off the rock (newfoundland) and moving up to alberta somewhere cause thats where all the wheeling trails are and where all the oil is haha so we would deffinetly be wheeling buddies :icon_idea::icon_cool:

Drumheller is an hour and a half east of Calgary in Alberta. It's in Albertas badlands so there is lots of rockcrawling type terrain here.(and dinosaurs) Lots of wheeling in Ontario too, I plan on taking a trip out there when the Bronco is running.

I can always use more wheeling buddies.

Finally got the cylinder head yesterday and got it painted. New gaskets should be in tomorrow and assembly will be this weekend, if I can restrain myself :) Also removed the topper and cheese whiz tailgate (that leveled it out with the 1" lift up front) And I have started painting the body, nothing fancy just a rattle can flat black. Looks alot better, I'll get picks up when the body is painted.

Anyone need rear glass for there Bronco?

If anyone is looking for one I know where to find it. Probably only worthwhile for someone in BC.

It's pretty rough. Probably about the same as mine.
