what kinda miles and engine are in it? the v8's will occasionally spit out a spark plug, but it's not that common. i had a 97 supercab 4x4 and got rid of it at 170000+ km's with no major probs. i also drive a 99 150 2wh drive at work with 260000 km's on it. they are pretty good trucks with the proper maintenance. Enjoy the truck.

ok as long as it aint the 97-98 4.2L...they had gasket issues which led to hydrolocked motors. 4.6L are pretty solid.

i bought a 1997 2wd xlt long box 4.6 triton..she has 401000..and i have to replace the dpfe..which here in saskatoon i was quoted by ford as being 176 bucks...yet looking at rock autos in the states i can get the correct ford part..shipped and gst paid for 96...even with this part playing up giving me lean codes she runs like a dream..

The 4.6L Romeo are known for head gasket problem too.

Mine blew up on the right side about 3 months ago. Look at 6 different junkyard in my area and nobody have a good one. Correction, one have two of them (his word), and I really don't trust that guy. He didn't want me to take a look at the truck (was looking for the mileages and the general shape).

But still, I would consider the 4.6L a good engine as my truck is almost 400 k. And I'm looking to fix it despite the mileage because the truck is in a really good shape.

They really do last.

Thats why ford says Built Ford Tough they seem to last longer than the other 2 big dealers out there.

I can tell ya that I keep cracking manifolds on the right side,if you replace them, gotta have the ford gaskets,my tranny came apart at 260,000 km,left window goes down on its own accord without a key in the ignition, hard on plugs and wires, underpowered, the abs switch under the master cylinder`s rot and mess up abs.my 96 has about 150,000 more kms on it and has been a whole lots less trouble

Hey folks, found this out the hard way. My '98 XLT with over 300,000 kms had the exhaust manifolds replaced, actually rotted from the inside out. Now i've heard that they had a run of manifold studs which were built too brittle and as the block and exhaust mainfolds expand at different rates when heated, the brittle studs would break off, leading to exhaust leaks at the mainifolds. I've had a couple break off after the mainfolds were replaced, may try to drill them out in situ. or otherwise i'm into a costly repair again.

If your chain is stretched to the point of pistons and valves kissing each other, then an engine swap will be the way to go.(Hopefully the used engine won't have the same issue.) Should the chain still be intact and just running badly ,it might be worth just pulling the rad and the pump and changing the timing chain.(And I hate moving the electrics if I don't have to...too many srew ups but that's another post.Ogre

It's a bit far... And not really cheap.

Apparently, there's a Arnprior junkyard who may have one and they deliver to Kingston once in a while.

I wish to find a good one so I won't have to change it again anytime soon...

Thanks anyway!
