1996 recall?

Read in a local paper on Manitoulin Island that a guy left his 1996 F 150 and went away for the weekend, returning to find that the truck had burned. The newspaper story said that they had checked recall notices and that this truck had a recall for a defective switch that could cause fire issues.... forget the exact details but it seemed they were ruling out arson and blaming it on this issue.

Does the recall ring a bell with anyone?

yep effected alot of trucks... my 2000 had to be fixed and my dads 93

to add you can just unhook the cruz control by unplugging it till the new one comes in or take it to the dealer and they will unplug aswell

I remember that, the dealer put a little harness on (that went between the master cylinder where the cruse plugs in to the main harness) with a fusible link in it

yep all they did with mine was unplug it and a week later had to bring the truck back in for them to plug the new harness in took em 5min no tools and 1 ziptie

Guess it's a good thing I never got around to changing the master cylinder with the switch when I put the cruise control in. I think I'll stick with the jumper for now until I figure out something else. The truck I got the cruise control from never had this harness. My truck didn't originally come with cruise. Any thoughts anyone?

I think you can order the harness though the dealer

Going to the dealer warrants going to the wrecking yard first providing I can find out what it looks like or a schematic for it.

Yup that's it. Exactly what's under the hood of my 96

Looks like a fuse holder that goes in series with the pressue switch with a little bit of extra tape and labelling to make it look mysterious. Next time at the wreckers, I'll see if I can find one. They just got a lot of 90-96 trucks in.
