The power I would love to have
:)

I'd be happy with just 30% of that power...damn...I guess you don't really care about mpg with that rig.

that was a cool way to build the engine, pull the cab, and the was the cleanest shop i have ever seen, that truck is unreal and that has to be the best burn out i have ever seen

I have to agree with fullyford for the best burnout ive ever seen as well, I wish i could afford a lighting I'd give up 4x4 to smoke a dodge ram srt-10 any day lol.

sweet truck its fairly simple to pull the cab i think its 6 body bolts and unplug the harness going to the cab dealers seem to do this alot for big engine work

had an srt10 crew try and give me a go in the explorer yesterday guess he thought i was fast from my exhaust lol i just laughed him off

I have seen another good burnout and it was done by Stacey David with his Copperhead truck and he did a burnout at the Nashville Speedway(I THINK). The burnout was atleast half the length of pitlane!!!

Very cool indeed. There were a few comments there saying it would be easier and cheaper to go the twin turbo route like a fella on the net who has a TT Ford GT that puts down over 1000hp to the wheels....all that and the engine has stock internals. these 5.4's are primed to be boosted just like the ones we drive in our trucks.

I gotta say i give credit to thoses guys that were able to fab up an intake and tuned it to handle twin SC's.....just hearing the whine at idle is music to my ears.

I have seen this video many times. It is actually relatively slow for it's appearance, only ran a mid 11 pass.
Heck my L with just a 4 lb lower, ported blower and supporting mods makes consistent mid 12s and with good air a low 12 pass, and I havent spent more than $2000.00.
Now if you wanna talk power, there is a guy on my strictly lightning site who is making 1100 horsepower with 1000 lb torque, twin turbo setup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like an everyday L

98nascartruck

That Lightning with 1100hp is that a Gen 1 Lightning and heard that from a member from that about that Lightning!!!!

MJG
09-29-2008, 07:36 PM
No it is a gen2, he just finished building it and is still dialing in the final tune.
Its awesome, one day I plan on either twin turbo'ng my L or when the demons have been sorted out on the new 3.4 Whipple, I'll go that route.

LayinHp
09-30-2008, 12:04 AM
what demons on the 3.4 whipple ? herd nothin but good... other then when u crank the power ud better have good headgaskets lol lifts the heads right off the motor

MJG
09-30-2008, 12:08 AM
There are still issues with the power it produces, you'd have to spend a whole wack of cash to support it, not that you wouldnt be spending alot on the 2.3...but the 2.3 seems to be much more stable and known for the past few years, Im sure the 3.4 will have its time eventually

LayinHp
09-30-2008, 12:13 AM
www.teamjdm.com the guys id use for the whipple.... to bad they poped the motor in the "fridge" before its full potential

MJG
09-30-2008, 12:15 AM
Yes I know all about JDM, I ordered my lower pulley combo from them, I am familiar with all the supporting Lightning vendors. I wil be heading down to JJ at WMS in Maryland this spring to get a good dyno tune from a guy who really knows his business.

LayinHp
09-30-2008, 12:16 AM
i think they were makin over 700rwhp on only 19lbs boost before they ran out of fuel.... and shut it down

they fixed the fuel issue then the head gaskets let go

you on modularfords.com ?

MJG
09-30-2008, 12:17 AM
JDM are very good, but wouldnt be my 1st choice

MJG
09-30-2008, 12:19 AM
No im not, nloc/svtperf/lightningrodder

I definately know the 3.4 can kick butt for sure, but in my mind, not enough out there, not enough experience on them yet etc.....i'll wait and let others blow their engines before I try it out, learn from others mistakes!

LayinHp

ive always been behind KB the 2.6 would be sweet on my truck but both KB or Whipple have good names

this would be for a non lightning f150

MJG
09-30-2008, 12:27 AM
Lets hear about your truck, im interested...i use to have a 98 5.4 pickup..so i am familiar with the reg f150s.
My L only has 21,000 kms on the clock so I am in no need to get a new blower etc. For a new blower I would have to go built, which is not my plan....yet. If my motor was getting up there then yes, I would just trow in a new block and rebuild from scratch.
For now I wanna see how far I can push my truck before going twin turbo or something.

LayinHp
09-30-2008, 12:37 AM
mines just a stock 2000 f150 5.4L 2v cold air and straight pipes on it right now

the plans are a jdm longblock, 3.4 whipple, jlp intake and airbox, i see lethel performance came out with a fuel system.. Fore Precision Fuel Hat looking into it more checkin it out a wasted expense for the billet wit it being hidden tho. the tranny will stay an 4r70w just built up, all with an SCT tune

exhaust will be kooks longtubes which i already have just waiting to put on as the truck has a cracked manifold right now

to add my motor had 95000 when i bought the truck used in 2004 and now has 117000 its in mint shape just want more hp then the stocker will take and no need to pop a good low k 5.4 always ran royal purpal since i bought it

MJG
09-30-2008, 12:43 AM
Yea the JDM longblock and the 3.4....$$$$$$ MAJOR supporting mods for sure, cooling, tranny etc.
I know a fellow canadian L owner who spent $27,000 in built motor and 2.3 whipple.
As you say, why waste a good 5.4, ride that puppy til she dies

MJG
09-30-2008, 12:44 AM
PLus another $7,000 to build a tranny that will hold that power

LayinHp
09-30-2008, 12:50 AM
9 bills isnt to much for a longblock i dont think ive got quotes from the local big ones here in ontario and there well over that one big name place wanted 30gs for a 500hp motor no tranny work.... now thats overpriced lol

there was a guy from florida who had a complete turbo kit the truck was dark grey and on fordtruckworld have the info on my other comp thing with turbo is the lag and if you dont want it its more $$ to right the problem lol

it always costs meg $$ for hp haha

MJG
09-30-2008, 12:55 AM
I know, it can get ridiculous.
To solve the turbo lag, you just install a high stall so it takes off when the turbos are spooled.
One thing I love about my lightning, it costs me pennies (compared to other vehicles) to add power.
Upgrading your Maf, pulley, and good tune alone can get you 12s or consistent low 13s, for the price of under $1000.00

LayinHp
09-30-2008, 11:43 PM
yeah ive been to the track its addicting... runs 15.8 with stock rubber and 16's with the 22's on

15.8 isnt bad for basicaly stock, a buddies stepside gmc with the 5.3 ran a best of 16.3 of course he wasnt getting "traction" lol

go fast = an empty wallet

id have bought a lightning when i got my 2000 but at the time insurance woul have killed me bad enough they droped my current truck because "itsbuilt for street racing" yeah right

MJG
10-01-2008, 12:08 AM
heck my insurance isnt bad, technically they classified it as a heritage f150, not paying much

one major no no is the section in the policy that states NO COVERAGE WILL BE ISSUED IF THE VEHICLE HAS HAD ANY PERFORMANCE OR SUSPENSION MODIFICATIONS
