I am trying to figure out the build date of my truck so I can tell if I have an early 99 or a late 99 (there are differences) but that tag that is supposed to be on my drivers side door is not there? I have looked all over the truck and can't seem to find it. Any suggestions?
I did find this tag if that helps.

I am also trying to figure out what front diff I have, D50 or 60? The Dana pn on the axle is 610659 1
I know I have the ford 10.5 rear but I would like to know also if I have LS or open. The rear diff tag reads S-406 8
3.73 10.5 8619
Thanks in advance

might be some help here

i would say dana 50. i think the 60 came with the dually. but could be wrong. can't help with the limited slip. maybe jack up rear end and manually spin a tire and see if other goes in opposite direction. if so open diff.

Thanks I couldn't remember what way the tires turned for open. I have the same question posted over at TDG so I'll try the one you posted if I don't get anywhere.

Sean you can just go to a Ford dealer in town and have them run an option list for your vehicle and print it off. You most likely have a Dana 50 in your truck, thats what I had in mine. Oh and they can check for any outstanding recalls while you are there.

So I found a build date on the driver side valve cover and it states that I have an early 99.
You would also have a D60, the 250's had the D50 until 2002 where the 350's all came with the D60

Dont use the engine build date as your truck build date, my truck was a late 04 and the engine was a 03. And Bmac was right I was confused about the diff. Hey its been quite a while since I have owned it :icon_cry:
Dead giveaways are a smaller track bar (17mm bolts vs 21mm bolts) and the ubolts on the front springs are more rounded across the top. The latter 99's are flat across the top.

Sorry but the Dana 60's fronts were only used in Duallys. All F250 and F350 single rear wheel trucks until 2002 had Dana 50's in the front.
But It's very unlikely your gonna break it. I had one one in my early F250 and their pretty tough.

Yeah I am sure I won't break it Don but I just wanted to know so I can shop for the correct upgrades. I heard the same thing about the D60 only coming in the Duallys over on TDG.
Yeah your right, wasn't until 02 that the 60's started going in. The sticker on the back of the axle tube (about dead-center under the oil pan) will also tell you....you have to look for a number...229=50 while 248=60

The big sticker with the barcode on it?
its raining out so i'm not gonna go crawl under the truck but I believe thats the one. you can also check the pinion nut.If its a 1 1/8" then its a 50 and if its a 1 5/16" then it a 60

I know for sure these model years 99 to 2000 F250 and F350 single rear wheel came with Dana 50 front.Dana 60 came in F350 dually and F450,F550.If you look at your owners guide under refill capacities it will tell you what front and rear axle you have.

I looked at the owners giude online (mine didn't come with one used from Dodge dealer) and it says the 60 came in F-350/450/550 and the 50 came in F-250/350, thats where I am confused but I guess the 60 only came in 350 dually and not the SRW from what I have been reading here and other sites.
I'm gonna take the vin to Ford and get it all figured out once and for all.

Ford switched to Dana 60's in front all F350 and F350 trucks in 02. I owned an 02 and did a lot of research on that very subject.
