Parking brake shoes

I need to replace mine and was just wondering if anyone had done theirs before and had some tips for the first timer? I'm tired of trying to find a flat spot to park out at the fishing hole.

In order to replace park brake shoes you must first pull rear axle out(remove the 8 bolts) then pull the hub off.You will need a two jaw puller,a step plate(goes on fixed spindle so thread part of puller can push againts it to remove hub and a axle locknut socket.If you plan on keeping your truck I would buy a ford work shop manual mine came in 2 volumes(2 big books)I like books better you can have them right beside you when you work.you can call this number to order right from HELM 1-800-782-4356 these are the same books ford uses they tell you everything i like it because it has all torque specs too well worth the money if you like to do work your self.

Thanks I'm gonna call them. I ussually get Haynes manuals but I'll try someone else this time. How much do those go for?

I was gonna do it this weekend but I guess I need some more tools first :) Can I get one of those step plates at Napa or CT?

Better than paying the crazy labor that Ford charges. Besides I like wrenching on my own truck whenever I can.

I do all my own stuff as well. Haven't had a vehicle in a shop for repairs other than warranty stuff. I have been trained to do it though as I apprenticed about a 100 years ago. It's how I relax. I am always under in or something. I don't know how people can afford to take stuff into the shop.

I took mine to a guy to run a diagnostic on it cause I was unsure of the problem. He did it and said I had a couple of bad injectors and maybe more than two. He said for replacing two it would be about $2500.00. I bought 8 used injectors off ebay. Cost just over $500.00 with shipping and taxes. I replaced them myself.

I do not like other people doing anything to my truck. Sometimes it may take me a little longer but at least I know it is done right.

I think i paid close to 200.00 for books they are about 5" think each you can also buy the dvd for cheaper but i like books better.it is worth the money to me you might be able to fab something up for step plate.princess auto usaully has all the tools i need.these books from helm is what the techs use at dealer ships.

I got it all done without pulling the axle or hub :) I just took the disc off and removed the springs (3) with little fingers/screwdriver/needlenose pliers and used the same tools to remove the clips that hold the shoes in place. It wasn't easy and there was lots of cursing but it's done. I even took it for a drive and tested the brake on a steep hill and it held, even stalls the truck if I try to go with it on. Thanks for the input anyway.
