i am looking at a 1997 ford f150 xlt regular cab short box and i would like to know the ups and down of them it has a 4.6L engine, 2wd , 195000 km mostly highway on it ;)

make sure to have it preinspected as these were known for rh headgasket leaking oil at rear.

make sure all the TSB's are caught up too. cruise control etc...but like shelby said , that should be all done in the pre-insp.

technical service bulletins. and check for any recalls as well. one problem with the 97-03's are spark plugs that blow out of the cylinder. only with the v8's. it's not that common tho. i had a 97 f150 supercab 4x4 with the 4.6 and traded it off at 170,000 km's. was a good truck. other than regular maintenance, had 2 Balljoints go. not bad.

can any one tell me what the 1998 triton 4.6 L motors are like fuel milage and fuel wise and power wise thanks

thanks alot i bought a 1997 ford f150 xlt reg cab short box flairside 2wd with a 4.6L and 191xxx kms andi will post pics soon

I just bought mine as well
196,000 Ks
My bud had owned it since 99 .
really no problems to speak of .
Still had the original plugs in it .
I have replaced them and the plug wires ( 6 & 3 were shorting out )
And of course the gas tank will be replaced .
During that time my Bud owned it the truck was trouble free for him.
Gas mileage he told me was around 23-25 mpg on a tour to the East coast .
Crap that's better than my Old 92 Caprice Classic .
