Does anyone know how to get the dvd to play when out of park?

I know Sask roads are straight and boring, but watching a DVD to pass the time seems a bit extreme...:icon_lol:
Welcome to the site, I'm sure someone has an answer to your question

There is a safety wire, mine went to the ebrake (manual tranny). Unhook it and put it on any ground. Voilą

Its not for me, but for my passenger... The new Sony system is amazing! It will be less distracting having my son watch a dvd than pestering me for entertainment.... lol

It's more than a simple ground bypass. I'm thinking it is more of a programing issue. Is there a way to hack into the system in a "safemode" The unit is wired through a module hooked up to the trans. I am assuming that the module tells the unit when it is in park or not. We traced the wiring and have yet to find the wire that shows a change in current when shifting out of park.

I know my Factory Nav unit on my 08 will not let you input anything till you are stopped, so yes it does have sensors tied into tranny

I kinda think the opposite... I doubt if you will be able to drive without looking at the video every so often, which is not the idea when you're behind the wheel. If you don't want to go the headrest monitor route, get a portable player and put it on his lap, it'll be much safer.

I've had in-dash dvd players in 2 of my last vehicles, and to put it straight up..unless your a moron who seriously cannot drive or has trouble concentrating, then go for it.
I can talk on the phone, listen to music, multi-task, whatever. Just be aware of your surroundings, theres 2 kinds of people in this world. The ones who can drive, and the ones who should be forced to ride a bus for the rest of theyre lives.
Now for your question, alot of the older dvd players were able to watch movies only when the parking brake was pushed down. This worked off of a ground tied into the e-break so when you grounded it out, it worked. Which is the case with my dvd player...but the new ones have to prove an order of steps before it will allow the video to be played.
Something like this
Key in ignition > Start vehicle > Vehicle is placed in park, and/or ebrake is pushed down > dvd is allowed to be watched.
So all of the newer head units require a small module which "fakes" these steps and makes the headunit think it's always in park.
But in all seriousness, get rid of the head unit in there, and buy yourself a nice brand name one, not only will you be able to watch movies, music videos, indash navigation, touch screen capabilites, but you won't wanna hang yourself because of the poor sound quality or anything like that.. Which is the case with factory head units. But if this isn't in your budget or you just don't wanna do it, well then heres the easiest answer for you.
Ford/sony will have that headunit setup so no matter what you do you won't be watching movies while your driving, because a) the truck is too new, and b) the lawsuits would be rediculous if they gave you that option.

This system sounds great! 700W and set up with nicely with sync to control alot of the functionality with voice command. I dont need to have the e-brake on, just only park. The dvd will still play sound when out of park but no pic. Where there is a will there is a way....

well if your happy with it then disregard my previous comment.
I'm sure if you waited long enough someone will eventually find a way around it, but for now i guess youll have to live with.
And by the sounds of it, they have it tied into the dic (driver information center)
Again this is just a guess, but if your dash cluster tells you what gear your in digitally, then it will most likely be controlled through there as you cannot alter it.
I also don't know a thing about SYNC and how they have it integrated through the radio/vehicle. But if ford actually went this way and tied vehicle functions into the radio for the 2009 year, then it will be a sad day for aftermarket stereos

We got two in last week at our dealership with the Sony navigation and it is the coolest thing out there.... I factory ordered my FX4 is the first 2009 sold in Canada! The owner is driving a Lariat with the nav and we are gonna be ordering most of our inventory with this system. It has a hard drive built into the system and a usb port. Can hold 164 hours of music and only takes about 15min to record a CD onto the hard drive. You can listen to the cd or any other media while it is recording. The positioning of the unit on the dash is such that if you are sitting in the back seat, you can still view the display without having to lean over to the middle of the truck. If anyone is on the fence considering ordering the system with their truck, I highly recommend that you do... well worth the money.

just curious as to why you guys are so set on factory nav?
with aftermarket ones costing less money, and having more features. and still being the exact same fit and finish...whats the deal?

My thoughts exactly, ive had a dvd player in my truck since a couple days after i bought it, and it passes the long highway drives alot better. But as blair said i only put in movies or tv shows that ive seen enough but can still laugh along to. And im pretty sure that if you really get into it any stereo can cause problems, like the people who try to change cds while driving and nearly hit curbs or other vehicles. All decks now have some sort of moving image on them, mine just has a nicer, bigger picture.

Let me know if you figure out a way to override the silly safety sensor...
I have always had aftermarket nav... The last was the Pioneer Z2 which is awesome, however nothing compares to the integration of this system with the vehicle...
I am glad I listened to the salesman as this system is as good as any I have used...

What exactly "integrates" to the vehicle with the factory system?

I have the same magnaflow too and love it, you can usually get a used one on ebay or cragislist. I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow 16616 (http://magnaflow.allexhaust.com/product.php?productid=6350?odc1l=16616). Also some of the forum sponsors usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.

hes probably talking about the 'awesome' steering wheel controls and that kinda crap. But needs to realize that the 2000$+ he spent on that factory system, he would be amazed to see what a 1500$ aftermarket deck could do..
