My father recently purchased an 03 escape and it's got rear drums. He would like to swap in discs if possible. Did they come with discs and are they interchangable? And what parts would be needed if it is possible? Thanks.

Thanks guys, wasn't too sure if they came with discs or not. I thought they might be an option, why would they stilll be putting drums on the back?

Most likely because it would cost too much money in tooling to change them over

Because the majority of the braking is done by the front wheels and the escape isnt as heavy as some of the other vehicles so it may not need disk brakes in the rear.

All vehicles should come with 4 wheel disc brakes now days this is 2009 not 1909

I agree, I think I'll just compare the Escape with the Sport Trak brakes and see if it looks simillar enough to swap. But then the only thing I would be worrried about is if the rest of the brake system on the Escape is up to squeezing the discs.

The Mazda Tribute is the same vehicle . Might be worth checking that out as well. I just replaced the front brake hoses on my daughters 03 Escape. The Factory Repair DVD I have does not show any rear disc brakes at all. Just drums.
