View Full Version : 4x4 vs 4x2
I am purchasing a lariat this week and i started wondering if i should go with 4x4 or 4x2 its a difference of like 60 bucks a month less (which i like) and i wont be doing any offroading...i do like the worry-free* driving but dont think i will get my moneys worth.
Is there a difference in the drive of the 4x4 while in 4x2 (different suspension and such) and also how much loss of mileage is the 4x4 model...
Any opinions would be appreciated

Honestly...i rarely use my 4x4..but it is nice to have...better to have and not need rather than not have and need;)...but i like to play a little and it might come in handy. You'll have to decide if the $3600.00 difference is worth it. i don't think there is much difference in suspension, altho i can't be sure. There will be a different axle and a differential and front driveshaft and transfer case. Probably not enough of a mileage difference to worry about.

Go for the 4x4 as far as re-sale you will be better off, plus I too thought that maybe
I should get a 4x2 and I bought a 4x4 and its one the best decision I have made.

I would go with the 4X4 as well. It came in very handy in the Winter when I had my Mark LT

That first time your 4x2 gets stuck in bit snow you'll wish you'd bought the 4x4...

if you get the fx4 offroad edition it has a little firmer ride than a base 4x2,the 4x4 has more parts to wear out,but if you have full warranty this isn't an issue, and like said before it's better to have 4x4 and never use it than to get stuck(my first new truck was a 97 f150 4x2 and i got stuck the first weekend i owned it)

I have the '09 4X4 FX4. the ride is great!...very quiet as well...go for the 4 wheel drive if the money isn't a huge issue!
Thanks alot guys...I really hate to spend that extra money for a fail safe but i would probebly hate myself if i dont between the embarassment of getting my truck stuck in the winter and the bill for getting it out...I guess 4x4 it is!!
