Hi
Just wondered if any of you got the added protection that the dealers offer for rust, fabric and paint? It seemed a bit expensive to me and was not sure it was worth it. I have to decide by beginning of next week, so would appreciate your feedback! Also, what about extended warranties? etc.
After buying the truck and getting over "sticker shock", I was not in any mood to be sold another $2000.00 worth of add ons...so I have declined for now....

need advice!
thanks

do a search online.. fordesp.ca is a site that offers the extended warranty. once you click the one you want, the next sceen shows the "Sale" price... it's usually a couple hundred cheaper! I'd start negotiating from that price down!

I didn't get anything else... it's usually not cost effective

I got the undercoating done on mine, thats all. The rest I personally have no problems chalking up to normal wear and tear.. Then again I plan on owning the truck until it basically dies. LR

dad just got it if they cover what they say they do then its well worth it.... as long as he owns it it rusts they fix it they spill something clean it up it leaves a mark they take it for a total clean or cloth replacement at the dealer.... some items are high priced but there price for the body protect and interior package they cut by over 50% and add on items like stepbars, bedcovers the prices are negotiable at least they nocked of quite a bit of $$ on his truck

same with there insurance coverage (life) they cut it by 75% because he could get it cheaper at his bank

I picked up my new truck this week and still can't decide which type of rust protection
to get. The electronic (diamond kote) from the dealer sounds good but does it realy
work ? I checked out crown rust rust protection (oil spray) covers everthing but just
not to sure about having holes drilled in the body. Any imput would be appreciated.

IMO Don't waste your $$ at the dealer for fabric protection go to CT and get a couple cans of Scotchgard and do it yourself, for Rust protection what I do is go to Krown annually any one on this board who has seen my truck can tell you its done it's job [no body rot on my 11 year old beast] and as for extended warranty's choice is really up to you I generally don't bother with them myself

The holes in my doors were drilled behind the door weather striping so they are hidden and all other areas are accessible through body plugs underneath

I found this on the Krown website and no I do not work for Them just been going there with all my trucks for over 17 years and know it works well http://www.krown.com/ecr/

Rust protection is an east coast thing:icon_rolleyes: lol

I would personally get the extended PREMIUM warranty. It has saved me over $5000 in expenses after the original factory warranty was up. And for the interior protection, if you have the "premium" cloth seats I would get it done as mine anyways are very easy to stain and if the dealer does it and it still stains they are on the hook for the cleanup.

Had my box off recently took some pics, you can see how the frame is well preserved for a 1998, even under the cab and bed you can see the green E coated metal still, I sprayed Krown on it since I bought it new in 1998 and I have driven it though every winter since new as well

frame has a few spots that were dry but more oiling will fix that overall for the age its done well

After just recently going through these same steps when buying my truck .. i'll add my 2 cents worth.

1. The rust proofing package only gets applied once and gets inspected every 2 years to see if it will get re applied. It rarely happens. Spend your money at Krown or Rust check and it will pay off in the long run.
2. Fabric protection as someone said earlier, go to Canadian tire and buy the scotchguard yourself and do it in the driveway.
3. As for paint protection, if you wax your vehicle twice a year ( spring and fall) youll have nothing to worry about.

As for extended warranties, im a bit of a firm believer in them. ESP if you plan on keeping your truck for a length of time beyond the factory warranty.

I have a bit of experience with the products like the paint/fabric/rustproofing that Ford tries to sell you. I used to work for a Ford dealership and i was the guy to apply these products to new vehicles.

I denied the paint protection, and my truck is leather so no scotch guard for me. When I had the 3M stuff put on at Shade-All, they insisted I consider their paint protection coating and thought wax would be a bad idea, especially having the 3M film on there. Any insight to that? Or should I wax this thing up in a couple of weeks? The paint looks like showroom condition right now, but it does need some sort of coating to protect.

I guess it's like restaurants making more profit on drinks and dessert.

Yes, this thread is two years old, but that just makes it 'retro'. I hear all the hipsters are into that, these days.

The plate on my Shelby and my handle on Mustang site is R3tro GT. Does that make me hip :icon_biggrin:

Just wondering what the best kind of undercoating is, and if anyone has a recent price? My one '07 needs it pretty bad, and the other one won't last much longer. Thanks

Hello

I currently own a 2010 SCREW XLT (as of Nov 2010)

My points:

1. I did purchase the clear coat protection and rust proofing which took two days to complete. First the oil base sprayed on and then the sealant itself. The rust proofing is inspected once a year and is for life (as long as I own the truck).

2. I also purchased a full maintenance package for 6 years; I pay for nothing just sign the paper at the end of the servicing. No environmental or shop fee for anything. (good thing is that the maintenance can be done anywhere in North America).

3. Because I service my vehicle at the dealership, they recognize that it is an inconvenience to bring it in, they also gave me a "tires for life" incentive. So as long as I get my truck serviced at there shop, I get free tires once they are below their normal wear period. If I want to upgrade my tires, all I do is pay the difference from the originals to be replaced.

Overall I'm very happy with the service and options that were offered to me, I would recommend the maintenance package and rust proofing, but as others have eluded to it varies from the dealership. With regards to the interior itself I personally put good quality seat-covers on which I can remove and machine wash. I also scotch guarded them prior to putting on the covers.

I hope this helps in your decision overall

Good Luck!

Probably Krown. Got my 2010 drilled and sprayed for 130 back in October. I'll probably touch it up with their rattle cans next week or two.

Getting your 07 done will help and it's definately worth doing but it's best to start doing them right from new.

I got the undercoating from the dealer and that was it. I'm not sure if that electric gizmo works and Scotch Guard from Walmart or Crappy tire fits in my budget now lol !!! Wax it 2 or 3 times a year and the paint shouldn't be too bad.
