So, I was at a dealer today making use of my free oil change coupon.
Salesman asked me how the truck was running, yada yada would you like to take a Superduty for a drive? Sure, I say.
Need less to say, the wheels are turning I drove a F250 King Ranch Crew Diesel. The road ride was very similar to my F150 Larait.
I was really impressed with the automatic transmission, it was flawless in shifting. The power was there when needed effortlessly, I have now had a chance to drive the new SDs on and off road and I am impressed.
Now one question remains, should I?

lets put it this way. i thought ( imo) that the ford super duty was with out a doubt the ugliest truck i have ever laid eyes on........ untill today. one of the oil feild consultants that i do alot of work for, rolled up in a brand new ford super duty that was the best looking truck i have ever put my peepers on. it was done up to perfection and now im considering 1 . in stock form they are ok but throw a few tastefull after market parts on a sd350 and........ BLAM ......... instant show looking truck. im going to get 1 for myself next year but id say go for it. bd:

He was trying to tell me that $27000 plus tax credit is pretty close to $31000, but I also lose about $3000 cash that I could get for bolt-ons.
I have another dealer that offered me $31000, going to talk to them on Friday but doubt ful they are only willing to deal on a stock truck and not locate what I want.

I'm taking a huge hit in the trade so there is a fine line of yes or FU!

Also contemplated an '08 F150 King Ranch, than I can transfer all my goodies. But than I thought......why?

Originally it was going to be for haulin a race trailer, but we have found a way to eliminate alot of weight so either my F150 or my brother's F150 can pull the trailer.

Than I researched the fuel economy on the new diesel and found out they are actually worse than the 5.4L Gas, so I may not even go to the other dealer on friday.

I had a used '08 SD lined up, but it fell thru(maybe). At this point it is a long shot. Basically it was going to be traded into a dealer than I would take it, but it turns out he traded it in to a Chev dealer for an Avalanche. There is a slim chance it may still come thru, as the Chev dealer has to buyout the lease from the Ford dealer.

The new sd's are nice. The harley one is pretty cool.I work at a dealer so i get to see them every day.Just one thing though, you have to keep in mind when looking to buy one...they only run on low sulpher diesel.Other than that, they are great trucks.the times they are good on fuel though,is when they idle.most oil burning trucks nowdays dont get that great of fuel mileage.

For work I drive a new Dodge 3500 (crew cab, 4x4) with the new 6.7 and it's only getting 11 mpg, not too impressive considering that's mostly highway and not pulling a load.

I drove my 2007 F-350 Harley truck to the east coast and back last summer,(motorcycle in the back) and I was getting about 850-900 kms per tank. I think thats pretty good for a 1 ton truck, compared to friends of mine with gas powered half tons.
Also I took a new 2008 F-350 Harley truck out for a test drive. It drove nice, smooth shifting, it's a real nice truck, but I wasn't impressed with the power, compared to my slightly modified 2007 Power Stroke. I have run my truck down the 1/4 mile in 13.76 sec. @ 99 mph. I know that's stock vs modified so the new 2008 Power Stroke has lots of potential and would probably be faster than this, given the same mods. Anyhow, I decided to keep my 2007 Harley truck, only because it's paid for. Here is a pic taken somewhere ??? during our road trip.

Slightly Modified and your dipping 13s? I realize that might only be a couple mods but thats a huge jump compared to stock. Stock to stock I think you'd probably find the 6.4 a little more powerful than the 6.0...

Yes I agree. We're talking 325hp/570tq (2007) vs 350hp/650tq (2008). Diesels have big potential. For example, add an AFE Stage II Intake to the 07 Power Stroke and it will add 14 rwhp and 114 rwtq. (Info taken from AFE's dyno test results). It's the torque that gets you going. Then add duel exhaust and a programer and you'll get another 100-150 hp. and 200-250 tq. (manufactures info). With this kind of power increase, it's easy to drop a few seconds off the 1/4 mile, and get better fuel economy in the process. Some guys are running in the 11's with their diesel powered trucks. Also, building up the turbo boost to 25-30 psi and launching in 4 wheel drive helps get you out of the hole in a hurry. My buddy has a 04 Viper and he was amazed at how quick the Super Duty is out of the hole. He said his Viper didn't pull that hard from a dead stop.(He looses traction). I'm not saying that my truck is faster than a Viper in the 1/4 mile, but everyone that been in the truck and done what I call "The 4 Wheel Launch", was totally impressed with the power of the Ford Super Duty's diesel engine.

Tim, you go through vehicles like I go through work shoes.....maybe even faster.

Good luck whichever way you decide to go.

Keep your 07 Harley. I'm gonna sell my 08. Paid over $72000 for it and it's a pig on fuel. 12 is what I get around town. Sold my 02 with only 75 k on it. Surely regret that move. Love the truck other than the mileage. Probably gonna look for an 06 or 07. And from what I hear Dodge and GM aren't much better. They all suffer from the DPF filter problem. I took it to the dealer early in the spring cause it was making a roaring sound through the turbo whenever I shut it off or let off the throttle. Turns out the DPF filter was plugged from too much city driving. Now I have to take it on a road trip(dealer suggestion) once a month to keep the filter from plugging up.

Anyone consider the V10?

HTRDDSL
05-28-2008, 07:41 PM
I had an 01 V10. Absolutely loved it but the city mpg wasn't much different than the 6.4 Diesel. When I ordered this truck last year it was touch and go whether to get the Diesel or V10.

If mileage is not an issue I recommend the new 08 to anyone. It's fun to drive, powerful and has some great new options.

if you can hold on for a year we should be getting the f-150 with a turbo diesel thats suppose to be going after the fuel milage market. I truely believe it too because I'm diesel tech for ford and the biggest complaint about the 6.4 is fuel milage (mind you they've been next to perfect mechanicaly compared to what the 6.0 was when released). The other thing is the loss of fleet econoline sales from not having a diesel option has hurt.

you can get great milage out of the 6.4 with the dpf gone and dpf delete tunes
