I was driving my Dads 03 Escape last night and after stopping at the store it would not stay running. I had to give it gas just to get it going and everytime I came to a stop it would die unless I had one foot on the gas a little. No lights came on while driving and the symtoms went away after 5 minutes driving. Drove it this morning and it is fine. I'm thinking fuel filter or dirty sensor, what sensors could cause this problem? Any suggestions?

check your TPS voltage. Mass air meter could also need cleaning

After you've checked and cleaned your MAF and fuel filter, you could always have the injectors cleaned and have the fuel system pressure checked...

It only happens every couple months so my Dad has not done anything about it yet. Seems to do it when the gas tank is low or has been recently filled.

My money's on the IAC. Easy enough to clean. You don't have to replace it, just clean it first with WD40 and check the internals for free movement. Let dry and re-install.

Read my post 'choking on a cat'. hairline crack caused coil-pack to malfunction....ODB never picked it up...left unfixed, it will destroy the catalytic converters.

No issues with it stalling anymore since my nephew rearended a Dakota and wrote it off, nobody was hurt except for the Escape. Thanks for the ideas.
