I think Ford is increasing the intervals to compete with other manufacturers. 5000 km's or 3 months was too much, even for conventional dyno oil. I've always done mine every 10,000 km's with full synthetic and a Motorcraft or Wix premium filter. That's likely too often as well, but I always wait for the mileage to hit 10,000 km's regardless of the amount of time that passes. Synthetic doesn't break down like conventional oil, so time is of little concern.

I'm sure the oil companies are happy to hear about this (sarcasm intended). IMO, it only put money in the pockets of the dealerships and oil companies. Like I mentioned, the oil change intervals were expected far too often and this is/was a major waste of coin for the consumer.

Matt with miles you run, you can stretch it out with proper oil.

well, i'll bring back an old thread. lol what would you guys recommend for the first service? mileage wise. i must have the ffv because of the yellow gas cap. if i can go 10,000 km's after the first, that would be great

Tell you what
Your manual will tell you 12 000 km
I use syntech and do it every 8 to 9 k
So will be OK with the same I wouldn't go Fords recommended 12 000 km

well with the miles I drive I should be able to do just oil change a year with full synth. I'm lucky if I break 10000Kms/yr.

Hold up Northern........yellow gas cap-WTF. You better tell Bill that if he is going to write you custom tunes.
oh and first oil change.........I recommend 3000km. Your oil should be showing a hint of darkness on a brand new vehicle at 3000k........that's when I changed mine. In fact I did the first 2-3 changes earlier. Normal after that!

thanks pete. it must be a ffv vehicle, but i will only be running reg gas. will that matter? I will send Corey an email about it anyways.

oh yes it will matter.......I honestly do not know if they can get as much hp out of custom tuning for those FFV engines. You will just have to talk to Bill and find out. As of the last I heard.......you couldn't even put programmers on them. Maybe that has changed now......and/or maybe with custom tuning it's not that big a deal, I just don't know for sure.
You better start doing some research though!

just emailed Corey explaining that, so we'll see what she says. a FFv must mean it can run on gas and E85? no E85 around here. ho hopefully Bill can tune for that.

keep us posted.......I'm interested to find out the story on those now too!

Miss leading salesman :(

Check your Vin # here this should tell you

If your 8th character is

V than you have 5.4L SOHC V-8 FFV Ford E85

Sorry :(

09-10-2008, 12:30 AM
yep, it's a V, dammit!!!!!! now i'll hope Bill has better news...i fueled up all the way back with it and haven't had a prob. filled up in EDM, then Grande Prairie and then Fort Nelson and put some in here too. so i can run the truck the way it is, might have to cancel the tunes tho and put the Gryphon up for sale:icon_cry:

Don't jump to conclusions yet.........these FFV's are becoming more popular so guys like Bill will probably have an answer for them if they don't already. We'll see!

:icon_biggrin:this makes me feel better

Flexible-fuel vehicles (FFVs) are based on dual-fuel systems that supply both fuels into the combustion chamber at the same time in various calibrated proportions. The most common fuels used by FFVs today are unleaded gasoline and ethanol fuel. Ethanol FFVs can run on pure gasoline, pure ethanol (E100) or any combination of both.[7][8][10] Methanol has also been blended with gasoline in flex-fuel vehicles known as M85 FFVs, but their use has been limited mainly to demonstration projects and small government fleets, particularly in California.[11]

so Bill should be able to write me gas tunes afterall. not sure how it'll run tho if i have to put in some E85 if i'm out of town.

from what i've heard, flex fuel vehicles should be inspected on a more regular basis as the ethanol can wreak havoc on equipment..but this is just what i've heard.

And when they say service, do they mean just oil changes. or more in depth

cause i know some vehicles that should be serviced every 5k, and that includes regreasing items, etc

fordtough.ca

Service means oil change
Manual will tell you oil changes every 12,000 km or 6 months

Northern Supercrew

still gonna do mine every 5000 i think

Northern Supercrew

ok, here's what Corey said about my tunes.

Hi there Glen,

You don't have to get E85 tunes; you can run whatever you'd like. The cool part is that if E85 is ever offered where you live, you can always get another custom tune to utilize it. :o)

Thanks for letting us know!

Blessings,
Corey

i know we were a little confused about the E85 thing. so it looks like there should be no prob tuning it for straight GAS!!!!
