hey there, i was just wondering what should all be done to a vehicle before putting it away for the winter. i have an 88 mustang GT and it is going to be stored outside for the winter. what needs to be done to get it ready for a long cold winnipeg winter?

check coolant condition(protection level and ph level)change oil to protect from acidic corrotion, and leave fuel in tank with a fuel stabilizer(prevents condensation/corrosion),use a good wax on the exterior and a ultrisonic pest deterent in the interior, also invest in a good cover to protect paint.

paint needs to be re-done anyways, but i'm looking into one i seen on another post here where its made for the vehicle. where could i get an "ultrisonic pest deterent"? i've also been told to jack up the body and set it on some blocks so it doesnt stress the suspension with sitting for so long, good idea?

Put some moth balls on some aluminum pie plates or in some plastic containers on the floor helps detour mice

the ultrasonic pest deterent can be found at crappy tire and wally mart, the moth ball idea works but the smell will linger(not to mention a lot of mad moths!lol:))

You mean like when there's an accident or construction? :icon_biggrin:
My Tips:
I use a couple of one pound bags of silica as a desiccant inside the cab to prevent moisture buildup and mold.
If you park outside - make sure you park on top of a tarp - this keeps the moisture from the ground and cement from coming up and ruining your undercarriage.
Wash and Wax the car and clean the interior before it goes to storage.
Shove a rag in the tail pipes.
Remove the battery and store it in the garage or warm dry place.

i live at home with my parents still.. my dad built a nice big 1246 sq.ft. shop 2 years ago, but won't let me park my car in there...or my quad.. apparently his vehicles are more important.. but my battery is always taken out in winter. but he does let me put my truck in the garage when its really cold out.. which it seems to be lots here in Winterpeg, so that's ok i guess. thanks for all the help guys! this site is the tits! and you guys are pretty awesome yourselves!
