Winches

Well thinking of buying one now. I know Warns are the ones but too much dollars for me. Been thinking about ordering a Smittybuilt 8000lbs one. Ebay has these 9500 weird brand name ones, they are red, but the reviews seem decent about them.

So this might be my next purchase soon...a winch.

I'm eyeing the XRC-8, lowest price I found here in Canada is $408 and it's just across the pond from me. First I need to get a front hitch made up then go from there.

Make sure that you can lock up the winch. Winch theft is not uncommon.

If you're going to do a hitch mounted winch (and need a hitch done) let me know. Got a buddy of mine in Van who does awesome hitch work, only guy I'll trust to do any work on mine [mostly because I'm standing there BSing with him in the shop watching so I know its done properly].

The XC-8 will work fine. They're pretty darn good winches for the money, pretty much as good as a Warn if you ask me. I've heard rumours though that Costco is carrying the Champion winches again, if so and you know someone with a card (ie me if you need to use one) its a great deal for what you get - you also usually get the receiver mount with it too plus a recovery kit. You also can't beat their return policy either. LR

Good thing I log on cause I was just about to press check out for the Smitty. I will go check out Costco though I think it's a 10,000 lbs one they have.
Yeah need a front hitch and want one so it sticks out that opening in the bumber so give me info to get in touch with your man. If I don't buy the Champion and I make a trip ti Van then I can pick up the smitty there, would have to deal with receiver mount though.

The Costco Champion is offshore but its one of the best of the bunch from what I've seen. Its the same size as an 8,000 lb winch (probably just an 8,000 lb anyways). Added bonus is that the last time I seen it, the winch was sold as a package with a receiver mount and an accessory bag (shackles, tree saver, snatch block, ect). Should be around $400 for the bunch, plus their return policy is killer.

His name is Shayne and he owns and operates Mobilehitch in downtown Van, 604.306.4713. Tell him Matt [Lone Ranger] sent you, he knows who I am.

OK, I found the link: http://www.costco.ca/Browse/Product....=1&topnav=&s=1

Price is a bit higher than the last time, shows at $500 and they don't have the shackles and treesaver anymore (I'm pretty sure it used to have it, I could very well be wrong). The winch cradle alone is worth close to $100 though, I think I paid nearly $125 for mine taxes in. Just a quick suggestion if you're interested. As for a receiver hitch that comes out the middle of the bumper, I don't know if they're made. Mine hangs under the bumper, I just keep a PA tow ring in there to act as a bit of a skid point. You can see it on the front in the pic.

hehehe the truck had less than 600 km on the odo when I parked on that gravel pile Man, I didn't even have the bc4x4 decal on the windshield yet! But it already did have a 6" gouge in the paint from 'wheeling up Sumas Mtn though.. oh yea! LR

Cool Thanks. Guys around here bought the Champs and seem pleased with it. How far are you from Vancouver? if not far then maybe meet up when I get over there.
