Great service from Extang

Last month, after pricing around for a 6.5 foot soft trifold tonneau, Canadian Tire had an excellent deal on Extang Freedom Trifold...$305 taxes in. But CT did not have any in stock anywhere and said they had to order it from the factory. I was skeptical but waited 9 days total till it came in. CT forgot the paperwork on the box, so I saw their price ($240) and that it did indeed come direct from Michigan.

I take it home and open the box, to find the spray foam in plastic bag packing used, had leaked onto the tonneau. I tried everything short of paint thinner, but it could not be removed.

Called Extang in Michigan, used my phone to email a picture of the stains and info slip and within minutes was told they are sending me a new tonneau. I was told it wasn't worth shipping the stained one back, so I could keep the stained one, but had to cut out the date codes on the underside of the vinyl, and mail it to them. That sucked but I now have a spare frame, seals, hinges and lock downs. Or one to be modified for a bed tool box. We'll see.

That was a Thursday at noon. The following Tuesday I came home from work at 4 pm and a new tonneau cover was sitting at my back door. Ann Arbor, Michigan to Saint John, New Brunswick in basically 3 days. I was impressed.

Thumbs-up to Extang on their fantastic customer service!!!

Good deal when a company will provide customer service like that, obviously you took a reasonable approach when calling them to tell them what happened.

That's a pretty decent turn around time, and the fact you didn't have to ship the old one back is even better. Nice.

That's a good deal. I just bought an Extang solid fold for my work truck, and it looks pretty decently put together.

Since you did such a neat job cutting out the date on the old cover, maybe you can have a patch made for it at an upholstery shop and have a spare cover as well?

That was my thinking. Either patch it or shorten the length of the tonneau to add a truck bed tool box.

Good stuff. Gotta love it when a manufacturer actually does the right thing. Twice now I've had to have replacement parts for my soft cover and Truxxedo has a lifetime warranty on all parts. Just called em up and they shipped right out. No BS or phone tag. Last time I called them the stitching was coming apart for the velcro so part of the cover was not secure. They sent me a complete new cover. So now I think I'll use the old cover as a removable roof for my utility trailer.

Whaddya mean I dont pay my bills?? Whydya think I'm broke!!

Tonneau manufacturers are pretty good. I have never had a bad experience with customer service. BAK sent out a new set of rails after one got bent removing them.

Just noticed I never did update this thread.
I sold the first cover (with the section cut out) to a co-worker for $150. He put it on his Tundra and hasn't patched the hole yet.

Subtract that from the $305 I paid initially and I ended up with a new tonneau for $155.

That's an amazing experience Mr. Ranger! Score one for the little guy. And as someone who has had to wait on replacement parts from manufacturers in the past, having all those spare parts will come in handy one day.
