What year 150 are you looking for? The 97-03 series would sometimes blow a sparkplug out of the head and the 04-07 5.4 plugs will sometimes break when removing them. Do you plan on towing alot? I would still pick the 5.4..more power and torque when you need it. My last few tanks have been in the 18-20 mpg range..i can live with those numbers. I have owned only one 4.6..that was in a 97 f150..good little motor, but i didn't tow with it. Mpg's were about the same as my 08 5.4.

Wasn't this only for the 3 valve motors? The 2 valve motors never had this issue.

In the 97-03 Style a 4.6L would suffice depending on what you're doing, 5.4 if you're gonna tow or haul much. In the 04+ trucks go 5.4L cause they are big trucks. Just my thoughts

Hey Guys,

I am not sure what year I am gonna pick up, I still need to sell my stang to see what kind of money I have, I am leaning towards a 5.4, My stang has
an old school 302 in it, So i would love to have a BIG V8 this time round.

What kinda total mileage can the 5.4s do, I know the 4.6s have been known to do well for 400K before they need a rebuild?.

Thanks for all the help

Don

Yep..the 5.4 in these years were the 3V's..the 4.6 in the 04-08 didn't have that problem.

the plug thread issue was corrected in 2000,the spark plug removal issue was corrected on the late build 07 5.4l 3v,if you can afford it buy a 04-08 f150 as the 5.4 3v has better power and milage in stock form.

a moments silence for the shelbyx,i hope her new owner enjoys as much.
