clutch starter switch

I bought a 1997 f 350 with a standard transmission and I had to push the clutch to the floor as hard as I could and even then it would just start. So I had a look under the dash and noticed a gap between the pedal pivot pin and the push rod on the clutch slave. The plastic shim was worn out I would think that this is a fairly common problem with these trucks. I replaced the plastic shim that was worn out with a piece of 1/2 inch copper pipe that I had laying around the shop it fit perfectly. Cut about 1/4 inch piece grease it on both inside and outside and it fit great. Then I put a cotter clip on the end of the pin to keep the new shim in place. Now I don't get anywhere near the floor board before it turns over. A cheap fix to a common problem and the safety switch doesn't have to be disconnected. dave
