I'm not surprised. Ford's been ramping down Ranger production for years, and now they're pushing the V6 eco-boost engine. They haven't really put any effort into the Ranger in 10 years so why would they start now? IMO, it is going to bite them in the arse though. LR

That's too bad.

Ford says it's because the small truck market is shrinking. Well, guess who's helping to kill it? Someone should tell Toyota and Nissan the market is shrinking.

You've even got a company like Mahindra getting established in the US, now, selling small trucks.

Ford says they can cover the demand with the F150, and I actually think they might be right on that score. I priced an F150 FX4 vs. a Toyota Tacoma TRD (both extended cab). The F150 is over $1500 cheaper, is bigger, and has a V8.

The downside of all of this is that there aren't any really inexpensive small trucks available anymore. The specs on Mahindras look good -- better than a Ranger, actually, in some ways. If they can price them around what Rangers were going for, I think they could pretty much own that market.

If Princess Auto were a real girl, I'd ask her to marry me.

Never heard of Mahindra, I googled it and they don't look too bad, they even offer a diesel.

I hadn't heard of them, either, until a little while ago. Apparently they've been in business for a long time. I read somewhere that they were originally a licensee manufacturer of Willys Jeeps. They are best known in Asia/Pacific for making freight trucks and heavy equipment, I think. They've already got a pretty good foot-hold in the Australian market, and that's worth something.

The styling of their pickups looks like ass, but for the right price, I'd live with it. There's no way I'd pay Toyota or Nissan $35K for a compact truck I bought from Ford/Mazda for 10 grand less.

Rangers are the CORRECT price for a compact truck, and not a penny more.

Don't worry, BIGPHIL, Ford's got us covered. They say that since most of their customers use their Rangers for "economical transport"*, we'll be perfectly happy with a Fiesta, instead!

Just think how cool you and your wacky friends, with their sideways baseball hats, will look on your way to enter the break-dancing contest at the techno-rave. The Fiesta is available with all sorts of bright fancy-pants colours like Lime Squeeze Metallic, and Contusion Purple.

But you'll be so high on 'E', you won't even care what colour it is, when you plow it into oncoming traffic, while sending a Twitter-Tweet from your new I-Phone, and listening to Moby.

Come on, bro, get with the times!

*(Apparently they've never had to buy gas for a 4x4 with the 4.0 V6)
