You might hate this, but, periodic inspection of tank straps is essential. Don't really think Ford should be held responsible for this unless they used cheaper, thinner metal than what should call for. Best suggestion is to fabricate stainless steel straps, rods, and nuts. This is what should have been done since the beginning, circa 1920's.
