Both are just as dangerous as me in the morning before I've had a couple of cups of coffee .

I'm not surprised really but work's no place for it. If you feel the need to drink or do drugs on the job that badly go work for Labour Ready (aka rent-a-drug addict), nobody cares there. LR

The reason I don't do either on the job is cause I work in a sawmill, so I have to be alert not to cut into metal or cut off my arms, legs, or even get killed, winter time is worse as I do logging and I don't need a tree falling on me or my skidder driver driving over me.

Saw this video today. Also not shocked.

@BlairTruck-

Smoking dope and drinking? I'm pretty sure that's not in my job description -- at least not that my boss mentioned? But he's almost never around. Should I start?

Not a fan of either one. I've worked with pot-heads before. It always ends in tears.

Regardless of whether it's smoking pot or drinking -- it's ****ing around, and not giving 100% care and attention, in exchange for which, we get a sweet, sweet paycheque.

Some people need to get reminded of what it feels like to be out of work. There's a lot of it going around these days.

Forgot to mention, in oil and gas, drug testing is very common. I assume in other industries, too. I've been to sites that have onsite camps. They've got a guard shack at the entrance and they search your vehicle with dogs. One contractor got sent home for having a 6-pack of zero % beer in his luggage. And if you know what those guys get paid per day, that's gonna hurt.

Same in trucking, we're drug tested pretty frequently. I'm pretty sure no one wants me driving around a loaded truck while smoking a joint... or drinking. I've seen the negatives of both, I don't care what either side says I don't want it around me at work. I get enough whiffs of pot or see beer cans rolling around on the road to know that a good percentage of the motorists in BC/AB are under the influence while driving, kinda explains a good lot of the bonehead drivers out there.

What anyone does in their own time on private property is their own business and no one should have the right to judge it (unless its invading someone else's rights). However, in a public setting and at work is completely different. Lives and safety are at stake, and its one thing for someone to hurt himself but for someone to take someone else out because they're not 100% isn't acceptable. I've seen it too many times, and I have scars to bear witness of it. Yeah, I'm a bit of an ahole about that stuff but I've had to learn to be so. LR
