EGR Delete-Sort Of

I bought my latest truck, a low mileage 2007 F350 Lariat crewcab shortbox with the 6.0 Diesel just two weeks ago. Just after I got it I unplugged the EGR valve. My mileage improved slightly but I noticed the truck a little harder to start when cold. It cranked over a lot more and the check engine light came on. I used my code reader to turn it off but it came right back on. I had a used EGR valve from when I did a complete Delete on my 03 so I decided to try something. I plugged the harness into the 03 valve and wrapped it in plastic to keep it clean. I then turned off the engine light. I started my truck and went for a drive. The truck started immediately like when I first bought it and ran great. Not that it didn't before. Also the check engine light didn't come on again. I went for a long drive and then checked for codes. No codes either. Don't know if this will work for everyone but I think I fooled the computer into thinking the EGR valve was hooked up. I will update you after I get a few kilometers on this. But so far so good.

I heard of a few guys doing this back in 03/04 when the 6.0 came out but I can't rememeber what the outcome was, like if there was a downside to it or not. Keep us posted!

I remember when I put my egr delete kit in and also remember longer starting times. I think it got better (or I just got used to it) as time went on. It's almost like the computer "re-learns" the motor parameters...who knows. Was sure nice to get rid of the problematic egr on the 6.0 though.

Used the truck again today. Started fast and ran great again. I'll be going to Edmonton on Wednesday. That will be a good run for it. On my 03 it throws codes but no check engine light.

I used my truck again yesterday and again started great. Still no codes. Can't wait to take a trip to Edmonton tomorrow. That will be the real test. But I'm sure it will work in the long term.
