oh dear I bought another one............

well my wife came along when I looked at it was a no brainer for me so all she did was smile.

had been watching for a rough old 88-97 F450 diesel 5speed dump . missed out on a 1991 in Elmira back in Dec so I jumped on this one as soon as I sawthe ad. (F450s have a driveshaft Pbrake mounted on the back of the trans, so they have a 4x4 trans. )

We needed a dump trailer for the farm, and I wanted a diesel 5spd for my 93 Bronco. big thing was it had to be cheap enough I couldtear it apart for both applications.

I saw it/drove it and put a deposit down on it immediately, picking up next Saturday.

1997 F450 7.3 powerstroke/ZF 5spd with 204,000km on it. working 10' scissors electric/hydraulic hoist.
price was very fair and I didn't dicker on it

my kijiji watch list has almost disappeared now
my fleet is pretty well complete now. what am I going to do, downsize out the junk?

Looks like a perfect work truck. Is it all stock? An exhaust and air filter mod can net you more power and better fuel economy if you need it.

yep it used to be a casket hauler before the landscaper,I think that is why the body is still good on it and yes it looks like a great work truck. and it is actually a pretty clean truck. but I bought it for the sum of the value of the parts I was looking for.

will probably use it around the farm until i'm ready for the diesel powertrain in the bronco. I will be putting a dana 70 in the back of the Bronco and doing an 8bolt conversion on the front before I put the diesel in. so I will have bigger/better brakes and stronger rear end before I convert to diesel in the bronco.

not sure if we will make the superduty frame into a trailer or just use the bed/hoist on the old trailer frame. the 450 frame is massive but the deck height is pretty high mounted on the F450.

Yup the frames are pretty high on anything bigger than a f350, My Dad bought a F550 and to keep the flat rack as low as possible we didn't put anything on top of the frame ( ie 3x4, 2x4 ) so the rack sits right on the frame and is still 34 " high

actually it will be a cab and chassis w/o dash or wiring harness or rad support, I'll be needing that stuff for the diesel swap.

depends on wether we use the rear frame and axle for a trailer or just swap the box and hoist over,
I could probably stick a gasser in it and resell it as a cab/chassis

thats too much extra work

Drove it home Saturday afternoon right down the QEW from Vineland to 403 West to 6 north up through Guelph .

got a little concerned when a big squeel started, as I did the ramp from QEW to the 403, stopped up above Clappisons corners on the side of the road.
vacuum pump or idler pulley squeeling like mad , kept it under 2000rpm the rest of the way home and it didn't fly apart.

as I expected , my dad looked it over and asked "so what are WE going to do with this one?"

I know what he wants but I bought this thing to use parts off so thats what I'm doing.

I'm going to leave it at the farm and let him use it there when its needed, until I'm ready for the drivetrain. then I'll pull the drivetrain and body, cut the frame off and build a trailer tongue.

it ran 2500rpm at 100km/hr and I was basically sitting floor against the tilt bar for the seat.
under closer scrutiny, it has 3 almost new Michelins and 3 almost new Yokohama Geosomethings

better score than I had even realized.

from the A Team : I love it when a plan comes together
