Don't check /scan for codes before drive clean test..

3 months I've been driveing my truck with the tune set back to stock because I knew I had to do a drive clean test this spring

today I took it in - right after checking for any codes that might fail it with their new check codes d-c test

well low and behold I didn't fail ... but I also didn't pass

what the hell...

computer had no data to provide for the drive clean test with regards to a couple of items

evaperative system - not ready
egr system not ready

what to do ? - according to a little hand out form the province :

step 1 -make sure the vehicle has been parked at least 8 hours without starting

step2 - start engine and let it idle in drive for 2 1/2 minutes with the airconditioning and rear defrost on

step 3 - turn a/c & defrost off & drive at highway speed for 10 min

step 4 - drive in stop & go traffic for 20 min

step 5 go back and try again - but this must be no less than 24 hours after the preceeding test

if your vehicle has multiple readyness failures it may be issued a "readyness conditional pass"
this may be used for registration renewal
if 24 hours has past between tests
if vehicle has been driven at least 30 km between tests
battery has not been disconnected and OBD codes have not been cleared in the last 30 km
number of not ready issues is not more than the number occuring in the preceeding test

if these conditions are met you can be issued a readyness conditional pass

but if your selling / buying the car it still has to pass a tail pipe sniff test

this info is straight from the papers the drive clean test / province give you when the test comes back - not ready

at least the place I went to didn't charge for the first try

Why did you put it back to stock with your programmer? The Lightning passed and I didn't change shit.

true dat. although there are some pretty shitty vehicles on the road that would be removed if testing happened which would be a good thing.

i get a photo radar ticket for speeding but farmer joe can drive his 1973 pos rusting apart and if it needed to stop quicky the frame would probably stop and the body keep going.

Really? Its the Internet take it easy.

That problem will take care of itself eventually.

On the other hand, how much pollution do you think every person in the city with a barbeque or friggin' fire pit belches into the air? In the city, no less.

Photo radar is just an Edmonton cash-cow. It's never going away.

Garage
For that matter, what about natural gas funaces and water heaters. Fear not, for Alberta will be e-tested soon enough.

I didn't want to chance the fail

took it back today - passed with no issues so I went and got my plates renewed

here our sticker goes on the front plate if it's a truck

well , I ripped off the plate and the plastic piece that hangs from the bumper last january on a pile of frozen slush- so I've had no front plate since

it was a little iffy driveing it with no front plate after and expired tags to boot

but MAYBE this afternoon I'll go out and put my harley truck front facia on and replace the plate with it's new sticker - and bump the tune back up
