2 blow outs in 1 day!

was hauling a 90 F350 4x4 cab/chassis down to dad's farm today around noon and blew my R rear tire on the van, just before Wallenstein on 86 east. had everything I needed along except for the spare. D'OH.

dad brought me a spare and I got it to his place, on the way home tonite we got just past Brussels line and the spare blew. drove it home that way, didn't even stop> I'm sure the shoulder and the gravel road to my house is ripped up a bit but there was no other way!

scared the kids when the first one blew, no warning at all. it blew the inside sidewall out.
spare did not quite feel right but had no bulges and lots of tread, empty trailer.......second blowout had 2 kids asleep and everybody was crying. LOL
tread separated completely from the casing, completely different failure.

wife was even joking about wanting another spare along but had no more.....

she was kind of shocked that I had no panic or even upset by a tire blowout, was kind of surprizing how little effect it had on the handling of the vehicle, I think I may have felt it more when the trailer was empty.

I took a couple pics of the first boom, will take some of the 2nd in the morning and I'll try posting.

definitely was an interesting PD day for the kids

cheers James

Glad to hear everyone's safe James, scary thing to happen once, let alone twice.

Good thing it wasn't the front. I had a similar circumstance many years ago. The back went flat. Changed to the spare. Couple of miles from the tire shop, the front went. Almost ditched the van. Got to the tire shop on foot with both flats, only to find out they had closed early for lack of business.(found out the next day!) Had to wait two days to get tires because they hadn't restocked the bias-ply tires yet. They did set me up with a used radial to get the van to the shop. Good to hear you made it.

got up this morning and puled the blown tire out of the back of the van to take down to " Fordwich tire" may as well give them a plug.........
and the r rear door window dropped out onto the ground in little pieces, looks like the driving on the rim last few kms tossed a stone at the window bouncing off the trailer and took out the window. I think this is called adding insul tto injury?

got a really nice Michelin mounted on the original aluminum wheel that lloks ok

took a R rear window off a parts van at dad's farm sat night and maybe barney will be back on the road again on sunday.

Did you see anything that might be rubbing, causing flat tire.
