Last heavy load for Barney ?

I'm hauling a 1991 F350 Crewcab diesel 4x4 home from near London on Dec 24th. might be Barney's replacement?
Barney's farm plates run out end of Dec and can not renew them.
got my trailer brakes working and all my lights so he's ready.

feeling like I should have some kind of ceremony for him. he has been through a lot and is not worthy of me doing a safety and replating it. but is mechanically fit.

pretty well the biggest job I've ever asked of him. 7000lb truck on the trailer, and barney and the trailer weigh 10,000lbs combined empty. last time I did something like this it was a C350 diesel Centurion on the trailer 2yrs ago.

should be about 1.5 hrs there and probably a 2 hr trip home> not pushing it !

will keep driving barney but won't be making anymore trailer hauling trips unless its just local.
its been a pretty reliable vehicle , maybe one of the best that I've owned even. almost 490,000km on it.

I'll have to take some final voyage pics .

a very merry Christmas to all Fordtough.ca members.

cheers james

Barney is almost iconic (well here anyway) and should be sent out in glory...maybe a derby van or tough truck contender? Should be in a Ford commercial too!

well I gave him the once over at work tonite and mechanically it would pass safety except for the leaking steering box( been like that for almost 5yrs and hasn't got worse LOL). found what the clunk in the front end was, boths sides of the rad support mounts are broken off, R side rusted away but left side has a big crack right through it and is no longer attached. nothing is rubbing anywhere so I'm leaving it alone, sure is an annoying sound!

motor has been acting up ever since my wife did some offroading with it and smashed the oil filter but right now its running fine. its had a rough few months! she also hit a rock hard enough it almost blew the draglink apart, more new parts I had to put on. and pushed up the rocker support under the drivers feet.

jeez she is hard on equipment, if she had been driving the TDI jetta it would have been a write off!

barney didn't even break a sweat.

I was impressed by the lack of effort required

might have to reuse this driveline in something else.
will unload it after the kids open their presents in the morning, I actually stuck a battery in it, ran the glow plugs and it fired up pretty quick> drove it onto the trailer.

cheers James

You have to go the extra 10k to get to the 500k mark before you retire Barney....congrats on the new ride James, it does have that festive candy cane look to it.

James, I think you should have a memorial for Barney. He's been a faithful old dog all these years. A proper send off is due.

I like the new truck. I think that because of the festive colours, you should name him "Nick" as in St Nicholis......LOL.

I'll be taking it down to work on Sunday and give it the once over, should have picked up an alt belt today at Canadian tire so I can see if the alt works or not.
will check over the driveline a little closer, run it through a pre-safety and see if its worth messing with . the yard is pretty big and should be able to get it through the gears if low range is working.

Lfront cab mount is really bad and floor is rusted away all around it, if its soft up into the firewall and side post I probably won't fix the cab. looks like it already had the fuel tanks changed, new steel brake lines and a rebuilt trans .
might be a tough call? I'm driving junk now , don't want to take a step back

truck is pretty close to orange not red, for anybody in the KW/GUELPH/Cambridge area it looks like a Frey brothers limited truck except for the 4wd , (hawkesville)
