Max tow package capacities

Hey has anybody come across this, i have a 2009 f150 supercrew 157 inch wb, the sticker on my door say the trucks capacity is only 1192lbs inluding passengers, but they claim i can pull a 10800lb fifth wheel with up to 25% of it as pin weight which is over 2500lbs Whats the real deal, what numbers are the real deal?

The payload number seems kinda low because my 97 v6 can carry more, according to the numbers, but the towing number seems accurate. Check out this link for more complete specs. At the very bottom there is a green link for specs on 5th wheel towing.

The best way is to accurately figure it out is to drop the truck on a scale and get a true weight on it. Subtract that number from your GVWR and that is your total carrying capacity including trailer tongue/pin weight and everything including people & a full tank of fuel in the truck. I suspect your GCWR may come into play as well. You my want to look at that if you are planning on maxing out the size of 5th wheel you can pull. Having said all this, I cannot even begin to image towing an 11K 5th wheel on an F150 but hey, if the numbers fit and your comfortable towing it, give er!!!

I'm subscribing to this thread....I'm borrowing my old man's new 09 F150 and towing my Lightning on a tilt n load, we know we need to get an electronic brake controller...

It's all about the boost!

The trailer tow weights are right out of the 2009 ford f150's owners manual, you have to have 3.73 gears and the max tow package!

Kdeacars, I believe your right that Ford publishes those numbers and that the truck can pull it but your getting into a position of the "tail wagging the dog". My truck weights about 9400lbs when full of fuel (extra 100gal tank) and me in it, and I'm here to tell you on a day with a strong cross wind, I will really know an 11K unit is hooked to the back of me. I can't imagine the same scenareo with a 6500lbs truck. Remember these towing numbers are inspired by the big three trying to outdo each other on specs.
