70's box switch

Hello people, I have an almost mint 77 long box with the cargo compartment, what I need to know is the issues I will run into when I put this on my 78 chassis. I needed to replace the filler tubes as they where cut off, I,m assuming the gas tanks didn't change, so the filler tubes should work?, with the box being a 77 I'm going to change the grill to a 77 as well so it'll look correct. Can't wait to close my tailgate, with out having to push the box sides over! Yes I said sides.

if you are changing the bed from a 77 F250>78 F250 2wd, no worries. 150 2wd no worries.

if you are doing it on a 4wd F250, you might have some issues as 1977 was a big change year, early 77 had a divorce mount Tcase and a narrow frame ,late 1977 production went to wide rear frame like the 2wd F250 and same rear tank. other changes too but you are just changing a box.......
easiest way is to measure your box bolt holes R side to L side. if they are the same all the way back and both boxes match, you have it made.

I like the 77 grille better too, always wished they would have built early 78 broncos with that grille.

Thanks for the heads up on the box bolts, I'll measure them first. Pretty sure the old box won't make another winter !

we had a 1977 F250 that was collapsing at the back but the crossmembers underneath were still intact. we welded up some L channel along the top and rear of the box floor, then used the same metal for both upright tear posts . welded the corners together, after making sure it was square and tailgate still worked. then we used a triangular plate to brace the two together right where the 90 in the L was and it lasted 3 yrs until the sides basically rotted off the box. it really made it last, and we worked the truck on the farm and hauling scrap occasionally. this was a few years ago now> Ontario......................

A little off topic but I grew up in Williams Lake. Ok carry on with the original topic.
