Harsh downshifts

Hi guys, I have bought a 2012 F350 with a 6.2 gas engine a few months ago. Every time, when I'm hauling my truck camper with the transmission in tow/haul mode, when I'm coasting down to stop after a longer highway drive, my transmission hesitates when shifting down from 4th to 3rd gear and then, all of a sudden it hammers in the 3rd gear as if my transmission was falling apart. That only happens once, after every longer drive at highway speed.
Another weird noise, I get occurs every once in a while, when I start my truck, go into drive and start driving, there is a speed related rattling noise that stays, until I almost stop the truck, then there is a clunk and the noise is gone. I had the truck at the Ford dealer twice for that already, but they could not find anything. Maybe one of you guys has heard about that before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That sounds like u-joints and/or hanger bearing.

Probably a bad solenoid. A newer calibration is likely available too.

The truck has only 48k on it. I checked u-joints and drive shaft, that's all good. I am a tech, but I don't work for Ford, so I am not very experienced with Ford trucks. The Ford dealer said, there are no fault codes and no software updates available. Not sure what to do with that thing. I just want to get that fixed before it's off warranty.

When was the trans fluid and filter changed last?

Stay on top of this issue, the dealership may try to fumble along with this until your truck is past the warr. period.
Have someone clear or re-boot your trucks PCM unit. That could help soften the downshifts. (re: programing history)

Press on regardless!

Yah, because having "someone" clear or re-boot the PCM wouldn't be anything of concern warranty wise, from a dealer point of view.

The early 6r140's had a bad batch of solenoids. Not all trucks were affected though. Works busy, I might have time to dig out some info later.

Cool, sounds great. Thanks.
Truck has 48000 km on it now. Transmission fluid and filter have not been replaced yet. I was going to do that at 50k.
