Tranny oil change?

It's time to do an oil change on the transmission and transfer case on my 2008 F450. I've heard different opinions on the merits of tranny flushes when changing the oil. Do they do more damage than good, I am the second owner of this truck and don't know its previous history although I suspect it's been used quite harshly. The truck has 100300 miles on it now. Is it recommended to flush with oil changes or is there a way to tell if it needs it?

Meh, it's pretty subjective if you ask me, I have difficulty seeing it cause more harm than good.

I'm no expert, but after 100,000 miles, it just makes good sense from a routine maintenance point of view to change it out.

For what it costs, it's cheap insurance, and gives you a baseline for your own maintenance schedule , if you think it's been abused, all the more reason to change it out.

It sounds cliche', but the fluids really are the lifeblood of the truck, keep them changed out on a regular basis and you should get many miles of happy motoring.

Change out the fluids by all means. I don't know about the flush though. I've been caught in the past with a flush and had probs after a piece of dirt was flushed loose and caused problems in the valve body. Change oil and filter and do more research on flush.

Such is life. Just passing through.

With your truck being a F 450, I would recommend that you take it back to the dealer, or a top end tranny shop that can do a heated flush for you.
This is due to the thermostat in the torque converter.
If you were to just do a drain and fill, you'll miss changing out the remaining fluid in the torque converter.

Press on regardless!

I am one that is not a fan of the flush because if you flush it you can't see if there is anything wrong. Drop the pan you can see if there are any filings or anything in the pan. Either way, you can also do an oil analysis if you want to make sure.

No stat in the convertor. It's in the trans. Your pan has a drain plug. Drop it once, change the filter. Then drain & refill a couple of times after driving. Flush done.

An oil change is never a bad thing. And so what if a guy likes to wear a dress and high heels while he does it? It's no one else's business what goes on in the privacy of your own garage, damn it!

If Princess Auto were a real girl, I'd ask her to marry me.
