Need Opinions on Gears

Really starting to hate my 3.08 gears. Was wondering how much it would cost to install either 3.55 or 3.73 gears. What gear would best suit my needs? Also what needs to be down to correct speedo? The area i'm in has a lot of hills. Never tow and maybe see the highway 10-15 times a year. I have a 97 f150 ext cab v6 auto. Any shops in the Barrie area to handle this.

If your gonna do gears I wouldn't go smaller than 4:10's or else it's kinda pointless, if you plan on getting bigger tires in future get 4:56....For a shop to do it your probably looking a 1500 to 2000$. If it's 4x4 you have to do the front too.

Hi, Gear swaps are one of the best felt mods you can do but theres no real "perfect gear" you will always sacrifice some thing either either way to end speed or bottom end power, to better awnser your question what tire size do you plan on running, what gear do you have in it now and what do you use the truck for?, Gears are usually fairly cheap but installation is expensive usually 400-500 per axle, and on 97-98 models correcting the speedometer is done by changing the gear in the transmission 99+ can be done at the dealer or a programmer can take care of that

i have a 2wd. I'm putting 20" rims with 274/45/20 tire on. 3.08 gears are about the most useless thing ford could have put in these trucks. If i gotta pay 1500-2000 guess i'm sticking with these.

A 275/45/20 is 29.2" if you wanted to give it some grunt I would put in a set of 4.10 gears at 60mph/100k you should be about 1942 RPM you can order gears from www.completeoffroad.com or http://www.ringpinion.com/Default.aspx or here as well http://www.buyfordracing.com/shop/in...?cPath=3_37for a fair price then you could take them to a local guy to install them but I would imagine isalation aroud the 500 mark alone

1500-2000$ would be for a 4x4 I forgot to mention that

I would call around and get quotes for just the install and order the kit yourself.

Make sure you inform yourself on proper break-in procedures...Many different opinions on that subject out there.

I have been considering this mod for a long time, just need to motivate myself due to pricey install for 4x4.
