Tranny Question PLEASE HELP

Hello my grandfather has a 2000 f150 2wd 4.2l regular cab auto with overdrive. His transmission is gone and were looking for another one wanted to know what other year tans will work with a 2000 or if any of the v8 trannys will work. appreciate the help

I think most 4.2s came with the 4R70W trans. I believe that the same trans is in the 4.6 and 5.4 v8s but the bolt pattern on the bell housing is not the same as the 4.2, not sure if you can use your bell housing on a trans from a v8.

whats gone on the trans,the 4r70w is fairly easy and inexpensive to rebuild.

Yes, the 4.2L uses the same bolt pattern as the 3.8L and its variants..

A bit of an odd and maybe wrong suggestion, but if he likes 5 spd trannies then its not too terribly difficult to swap them, and probably about the same price as a rebuild. LR

well the transmission was supposed to be rebuilt by a guy and then re installed in the truck. well he used the old bell housing seal and it ended up blowing that one. Then he put a new seal in it and worked fine for a month or so and the guy went out of businness now he has no reverse and the forward gears are slipping.

Could this be the torque converter maybe ???
