You should list the truck you are talking about so everyone knows what rearend it is. Generally pinion seals are not that difficult; on the Sterlings (rear ends of late model 250/350 SRW), the most important thing is to ALWAYS replace the nut & crush sleeve and ensure you follow the torque proceedure.

a pinion seal is a fairly easy repair,as stated earlier replace the seal, nut, and crush sleeve, tighten the nut to zero freeplay than tighten it to 18-22 inch pounds rotational torque, for most people who wouldn't have the proper tools the best option is to take it to a repair shop you trust(just the cost of the tools and time down would put you over the top)

a moments silence for the shelbyx,i hope her new owner enjoys as much.

Just an update I dont know if anyone has ever heard of this my diff oil leak was coming from the yoke where the nut is not from my pinion seal it was fine. I was told that over the years my pinion nut had come loose and the flange that holds the driveshaft was loose and the diff oil was leaking from there Im glad I went to another shop to see what they thought because the first place told me that my pinion bearing and seal were gone at a cost of 600 dollars to repair the second place I went to charged me 20 dollars he said it was just a loose nut and replace the nut and all is well so I just want you all to just be careful who you goto it was a lesson to me always get someone else to check it before you get the work done.
