Changing speedo gear on 97 f150

Hey, is there some trick to doing this.

I have the new 20 tooth gear and I know where the VSS is on the tranny. I undid the 11mm bolt that holds the VSS to the tranny and I was able to take the whole unit out of the tranny. My question is how do you get the gear off once its out of the tranny. I tried pulling, twisting even vice grips and the damn thing won't come off?

The part above the arrow it what I am trying to take off.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Whaddya mean I dont pay my bills?? Whydya think I'm broke!!

Garage
I know on the older ones, there is a c-clip holding the gear onto the cable. Have a look, it should be just a little to the right of the arrow, on your picture, in a slot in the plastic.

The speedometer gear is on the end of the VSS, and makes contact with the drive gear. Notice the opening on the lower left hand side of the picture. This is what it looks like when it goes into the housing ... you will have to pull off the retainer slide off the gear, slide on the new gear and put the retainer back on

all fixed now, it was off by about 20kph. The old driven gear is an 18 tooth.
