Post Headliner Water Damage ...

I discovered I have a leak at the rear roof area or the upper corners of the rear window so the left and right corners of the headliner are badly stained . I'm taking the truck the dealer and they are going to try to find and repair the leak . My question is what to do about the headliner . A replacement from Ford is about 1100.00 not including taxes or installation . The dealer suggested I try and have the liner cleaned at a detail shop . Has anybody here ever had this done and could you recommend a shop . Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks ...

You could try using Turtle Wax brand "Power Out" upholstery cleaner, or check out this website, http://www.kennyupull.com/hamilton/index.php

You would have to go there and search for a replacement head liner, they don't list an inventory of available parts in their yard. That's what keeps their prices so low.

They have a yard located in Ottawa as well.

Press on regardless!

I bet it's coming from the 3rd brake light. Has it been replaced yet? Do you have a sunroof? Ford has a good cleaner, Motorcraft Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner might be worth checking to see if the dealer has it.

Hi Ryan ... My truck does not have a sun roof and the stains are on the rear interior roof pillars well away from the third brake light so it appears that the leak is coming through the joints at the outer roof corners . However from reaserch and information I have found it is possible that the light is a factor . The truck is going up to Erinwood on Tuesday for some warrenty work and they will do an inspection and possibley a water test and try to determine where the leak is coming from . Either way I think I have nothing to loose trying to clean the stains from the liner . If cleaning it makes it worse it will have to be replaced . Hopfully it all works out ...

Re: third brake light housing, a bit of clear silicone will fix that.
Ford does not sell a replacement gasket, just the complete housing.

My light hasn't caused any additional problems since I sealed it.

Press on regardless!

When you take it to Erinwood ask for Dan Z. to look at it. Best guy there. Unless they have to get somebody like Water Doctor (maybe Leak Doctor) in.

The 3rd brake light may still be where it starts. Like Big Daddy said if the dealer finds it`s coming through the 3rd brake light and you think it is to expensive to replace, some clear silicone will seal it up.

Thanks Ryan ... I will ask for Dan to have a look at it if possible ... In the mean time I did get some reashuring news . I took my truck up to Fine Details today to get the engine / engine bay shampooed and they had a look at the water stains and told me that they have a product that will remove the stains without damaging the liner .
