Door chime issue.

Ok so heres the prob. It just started in the last 2 days. When the truck is turned off, no key in the ignition, lights off, wipers off, dome light off, as soon as I open the drivers door the chime starts. If I try the same with the pass. door there is no chime.

Any ideas?

Yeah thats what I figured. I can live with it for now, but its just damn annoying. I really don't want to have to replace the ign switch, $$ is kida tight right now with Xmas coming. I've researched and some ppl have unplugged or cut the black/w purple wire that connects the ign switch to the GEM, but from what I have read thats only for the 04+, anyone know if this is possible on the 97-03 and what the colour/location of the wire is? The other mod ppl have done is just take the GEM completely out.

I have been unhooking the black/pink coming from the column on every SD I've had (99,03,04,07) and it kills the key in ignition chime every time so they don't seem to change much in that area year to year.

Well thats what the prob was, if I jiggle the ignition a few times the chime stops. I'll wait till spring to pull the bottom cover off the steering column to get at that wire. I hope Ford didn't change the wires colours.

Thanks for the info ppl.

you can get just the switch that goes on the tumbler, ford p#sw-6675(the rubber tab falls off)just put the key in,turn to run pos, push in botton on bottom of column under tumbler pull out tumbler, the switch will be grey or orange in color and slides off the tumbler barrell.
