Where are DRLs on 2010 F150 ?

Guys this is going to seem like a dumbass question, but where are the DRLs for the 2010 Ford F150 located?

I could have sworn my DRLs were my front facing parking lamps, but I'm being told on the US based F150 forums that they would have been my headlights at reduced voltage.

These questions surfaced after I installed the 2013 OEM HIDs with the Morimoto Adapter harness. Since then I've had no DRL function.

I'm not expert on this, I expect Travis will be the man to answer this one, but I'll throw in my two cents.

I suspect your old OEM halogens had the DRL function, when the HID's became factory options the enhanced, or brighter parking lights, covered that function.

I don't think the HID's are capable of running at the lower voltage, hence the switch to the parking lamps for that function.

Makes sense that your HID swap out would not have daytime runners, not sure what the path forward is on that.

OK thanks SVT.

I'm not sure why I was thinking that my parking lamps were my DRLs as it sounds like that never came about with Ford until the HIDs arrived on the 2013 models.

If I have to manually turn on my parking lamps to get my DRLs, I guess that's the sacrifice I'll have to make to have the HIDs.

I'm not sure how the new circuitry works, but the HID equipped models appear to have brighter parking lamps than the halogen equipped models.

I'm surprised anyone on the American forums even knew anything about DRL's, I thought it was only Canadian vehicles that were required to have them.

Generally, they don't have much interest in anything Canadian. lol Must have been other Canadians answering your post.

I thought read on another site, the guys who installed OEM HIDs had the dealer program the orange parking/signal/marker lights to be their DRL.

Edit: With that being said, I can't find the exact thread now. And it may only be an option on the 2013 and 2014 models.

Your drl are your headlight not your parking lights. Unless you get the dealership to turn off your rdl your hid should be on all the time. There is enough voltage to trip the relay to power the hid with just the drl on. This will in time burn your bulbs and your ballasts in a shorter time span. That being that your headlights will now run all the time not only during night time driving hours.

Only 2013s have parking lamp housings as DRLs. But it is the flash side of the bulb they use.

Do your low and high beams work properly?

Sometimes the pins on the H13 harnesses are switched.

Your DRLs will be the headlights like they were before. But like boss said it will burn your bulbs faster and in turn require replacing sooner.

The dealer can reprogram your truck as a US model and shut your DRL off, but only the '13+ trucks have the ability to use the parking lamp/turn signal as the DRL.

Reduced wattage HID's have been around for some time. However, I suspect the automotive industry, in it's usual fashion, requires some time to catch up. They should be available right before obsolesence.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

So here’s the update.

I must be getting senile in my old age to have thought I had parking lamp DRLs on my 2010.

I've gone from having no DRLs to having the HIDs now as my DRLs. Apparently that's the way it supposed to function if you replace the 2010 OEM Halogens with the 2013 OEM HIDs. The HIDs take over the role that the halogens used to fulfill as the DRLs....as Boss & Travis mentioned.

Don't ask how I got the DRLs going because I'm not sure.

So I guess the issue now is the HIDs running all the time will drastically decrease the life of my HID bulbs & burn out the ballast a lot faster.

So to get that mod done by the dealer where they reprogram my truck to think it’s a US truck, thus deactivating the DRLs……how much was that running those of you who had that done at the dealer?

I think I paid $30 bucks ish. Under $50 for sure.

Problem is a lot of dealers don't actually know the law.
