Bearings question

I have friend that ask me if had bearing going bad and wondering they worry about the wheel problems like the wheel falling off or something like that while driving!!!

I've had a few front wheel bearings go on mine..started with a "whine/howl" and then finally a "crunch/grind"..i drove home like that..altho slowly and it wasn't far..never had a wheel come off tho, suppose it's a possibility.

Very few bearings getting old and tired will result in catastrophic failure unless they are bone dry and heat to the point of failure. Long before that point comes, you will experience a fair amount of whine akin to tire noise on concrete. The exterior hub will also be hot to the touch, not just warm

Rear wheel bearings will demostrate diff fluid leaking onto the rear rotors or drums long before one of those head south.

Bearing maintenace should never be overlooking though, it is relatively cheap vs risk.

Depends on how long your friend plans on driving around with a bad bearing I think.

He should seek some professional help, the longer he waits, the worse things will get....
