Ball Joints

How long should they last I installed a leveling kit in my truck on the weekend (2.5) and got a alignment done today My truck has only 36000 km and the tech at Ford said the lower right ball joint was loose? Could that be right? I had a Ford with 300000 km on the original bal joints 4X4 also

did they actually measure radial deflection on the joint(spec is .032")and if it's worn out should be covered under base warranty(no cost to you)

a moments silence for the shelbyx,i hope her new owner enjoys as much.

If it was installed wrong, maybe. Ball joints (yes even on a Ford...) should last a fairly long time, at least 200,000 km unless you're pounding them on gravel roads or heavy 4x4 usage. I have found that OEM stuff does last longer than aftermarket replacements, I think because that the original joint was installed when it was brandnew, and they do wear a touch in the socket.

It could also be that they are trying to make extra work for themselves, or perhaps have mistaken a loose wheelbearing for a loose balljoint. You'd think a tech should know better, but sometimes you'd be surprised. LR

Swackly what year is your truck ? I'm thinkin they are trying to get you on the ball joint cause you did the 2.5" level, saying it's your fault and make you pay. Just my 2 cents worth shruggs

My truck is a 2005 I replaced my lower ball joints at 30,000km. I just hand installed the leveling kit and took it to ford for the alignment and they sayed they we lose. So I put new one in and got the alignment. Now at 80,000 everything was just checked out at ford again and is still in top notch condition. 50.000 with leveling kit no problem with wear on ball joints. 85% highway 25% towing 26ft house trailer. The moog balljoints are the best replacment
