Oil filter recommendation on a 99 7.3 turbo.

I just bought this truck and it seems like a gem so far, so I want to take good care of it. I noticed that the last filter was a Fram and I am coming due for a change, and was wondering what is recommended for a good engine oil filter.

Motorcraft or purolator. Stay away from that orange can of death

You can't go wrong with the Motorcraft (Ford) FL1995 or the Donaldson P550371.

2001 F350 CC SWB 6spd....currently getting a complete 'makeover'. Stay tuned.

I agree with the two above.... there are vids on youtube that explain some of the different filters and show whats in them when cut open... most dont do much.

Find out who makes the filters for the 7.3 and go with that.

For my 6.0 I use Fram which are made by Racor which supply Ford with oil and fuel filters.

I use Wix filters on my clubwagon, mainly for the availability instock at work.
when I buy them other than from work, I use the FL1995 motorcraft or a fleetguard equivalent, can't remember the # anymore.

Fram and Baldwin spin on filters I have seen leak at crimped seam next to the seal surface, so I won't use either one.

you have a good longlife engine if you service it right. my clubwagon has almost 400,000 on it, last tank of fuel worked out to 22.1 mpg a lot of short trips and not much highway. I don't baby it either, but it gets looked after service wise.

good luck with your new to you truck.

I wont use a fram spin on my gassers but with the diesel it's one of the recommended filters.

I would recommend that you go with the K&N # HP-6001 oil filter for your 7.3L.
They also list a cold air filter kit # 57-2530 as well (min. 14 Hp gain)

Press on regardless!

unless your going big HP stay away from cold air kits for diesels.... sure they let more air in but no aftermarket filter can match the factory one for filtration. Its those small particals that kill turbo's fast plus add to other problems.
